QUOTE(brownsugar08 @ Sep 3 2005, 12:19 AM) Tadaaaa...conversation done. Exactly. It does not look good..in ANY way.. Eyeliner on boys...if that's not an automatic turn off, then what is? And don't say I'm being close minded...obviously you have a close-minded opinion, if you think you're so right you have to justify my statement. ![]() I know you weren't talking directly to me but I think half of the people who said eyeliners are hot didn't say they were right. I think they were just stating their opinions (I'm sure you knew that). To me an automatic turn-off is too much chest hair or leg hair on boys. GROSS. But I think eye liner is hot. |

QUOTE(brownsugar08 @ Sep 3 2005, 12:33 AM) Oh well. You know, now that I think about it, there are SOME boys who look horrible with eyeliner. So now I guess my answer would be, pale boys look hot with eyeliner. The reason behind isn't something racist... it's just that.. I can't imagine a black guy or an asian guy wearing eye liner. He has to be pale to look hot with eye liner. (Even though some asians are pale...) |

I don't think trying to conform their ideal of noncomformity is pathetic. And I think everyone is different. They don't have to try to conform cuz they already are different. Wearing eye liner for boys isn't comforming cuz a lot of people do it... well in my place yeah a lot of boys do it. And what if they wear eye liner because they think it's fun? Some people wear eye liner because sometimes NOT to try to conform but for fun. |

What I think is pathetic is for someone who questions their motives and tells them what's cool and what's not. It's pretty self-evident that most guys who wear makeup are the type who think of themselves as "non-comformists" and have to do everything they can do draw attention to the fact that they are "different". I can respect someone who does their own thing and doesn't try to be different (or draw attention to the fact that they are different), because yes, as a whole, most people are in fact unique. But it's tiring to see people going out of their way to "be different" by doing things like wearing eyeliner. |

And if you're gonna say they might be lying may I ask again HOW DO YOU KNOW??????? Sure it seems like an odd chance that they're not lying but hey, who knows? I hang out with emo people and they tell me they wear eye liner cuz it's a "punk rock/morbid" bond thingy for them. I don't know what made you think they're just trying to be different. You never know unless you ask. You really shouldn't underestimate people like that and predict their personality even though it seems like their trying to be diffrent. |

What if they aren't afraid to show the darker side of themselves? If they find black and eyeliner appealing, why do they have to have people criticizing them all the time? |

^ again let me say..EXA-CE-TU-LLY! One of the points of being emo is to show the darker side. I mean that person who said emos try to comform themselves... who are you to talk when you don't even talk or understand them?

QUOTE(mipadi @ Sep 3 2005, 6:51 PM) Of course I'd think that. ANYONE would assume that if you keep attacking emos and saying how they always try to comform from other people. As another emo I wear eye liner for a reason, I wear black attires for a reason, I am depressed for a reason and it's not to act different but because for once in my life I feel free from a cage I lived my whole life. I bet other guys that wear eye liner have a good reason to it and you don't have a right to doubt them. |

Well, let me inform you of your ignorance. I have been around emo a lot--long before it was cool to "be emo". I've played in several emo bands, and have had a number of friends that have played in emo bands, long before emo was popular. I've been around it long enough to know that emo isn't lining your eyes in black and saying "Woe is me, woe is me, the world is such a bad place and my life sucks" and going to great lengths to draw attention to this fact, like the bastardization of emo is today. Go back in time ten, fifteen years ago--emo artists didn't wear black eyeliner and bitch and moan. That's not what emo is about, and yes, I think anyone who painstakingly tries to conform to that "standard" is just trying to fit in by not fitting in to mainstream culture. Don't give me this shit that "I'm emo because I'm depressed" because a) emo isn't about being depressed and mopey all the time and b) it's a disservice to people who truly do suffer from depression. |

QUOTE(mipadi @ Sep 3 2005, 6:06 PM) Thank the Lord someone actually said that, but you see depression and having a dark personality has inspired dressing this way. Depression causes you to think in a more gloomy, under the weather way, causing you to possibly feel more comfortable dressing in black. Some people take it to a further extreme. Unfortunately, those idiots that wear black, tight women's jeans, eyeliner and pretend to be depressed and whatnot exist and will always exist. WELCOME TO POSERVILLE. Emo is no longer a culture. It is a TREND. AHH. OFF TOPIC AGAIN. DAMN MY ADD. Eyeliner looks cool to some people and looks stupid to other people. Lots of posers wear eyeliner to 'seem cooler' and 'more emo', but truthfully, I don't give a damn. It's their choice. If they want to go about looking like an idiot and people take notice, that's their problem. |

Like I said there are many reasons why I am emo but seriously if you are emo yourself then why do you doubt them so much? I can understand if emos wear eye liner that's a normal thing but preppy guys that wear eye liner are obviously something. And I know what emo isn't about ... the outside is just the first layer. If you do understand then try to understand me. Seriously, guys can wear eye liner if they want. It doesn't matter. It doesn't give us college degrees nor does it gets us fired from our jobs. It doesn't affect us significantly. And I don't think you implied this or anything but i hate it when people say that I don't suffer from depression or anything cuz it's like saying they know what I go through. But getting back to topic, leave guys alone! Seriously if they want to wear black eye liner, it's their choice for them and not for us to judge. |

Then some executive found he could market emo to the masses as a trend. I'm not saying guys can't wear eyeliner if they want. I'm not saying I'd make fun of some guy wearing eyeliner. I'm not even saying I wouldn't be friends with such a person. But the original poster asked for opinions, and my opinion is that it is stupid, not good looking, ridiculous, and an attempt to appear more "scene" or "non-comformist". |
