I was thinking of maybe donating 1 pair of jeans and 1 pair of shoes at my school for them to give to the victims over at the Astrodome.

It's just so unbelievable that this event has occured. This has been the storm of a lifetime... sad.gif

QUOTE(linke3 @ Sep 2 2005, 2:30 PM)
Hmm, well I read that countries are trying to contribute to hurricane relief:
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/09/02/katrina.world/

But it is sad about what is going on. I would donate, but I have no money. I'm sure that my school is going to try to raise money to help, as we did with the tsunami.
*

the quote from me was from August 28th. The CNN article is dated for September 2nd. yea, i saw that on the news this morning and was glad that we're no longer alone in this.

QUOTE(caytexo @ Sep 2 2005, 4:30 PM)
heh. i was thinking the same exact thing! only 20 countries offered to donate money to help. after all of the money we've given to the countries around the world, you would think that more of them would be willing to help us in return.
*

though this is a sad number of response, i'm still actually very glad that people finally care enough to speak out about it.

Kevinxp, what the hell are you talking about? are you saying that in 2001 the government KNEW that in 2005 there would be a level 5 hurricane? did you learn it in a school because i need to petition it to be shut down.

^ i think we need to stop saying the government knew something but didn't do anything. a hurricane is a natural event that gives (usually) no prior warning. look at the tsunami victims.

which is why i feel so guilty and so shocked. when i was watching the news, they said katrina blew into land, rained a little, and blew back out. the people was saying how it was a catergory 1/2 storm. a day ago, i was watching the news and it just baffles me how it jumped to five so quickly. and then i felt guilty cause i paid no mind to it.

QUOTE(funbobby @ Aug 31 2005, 6:27 PM)
Theres no way Im giving a donation. The worlds richest nation can send their 60,000 troops there instead of Iraq and sort their own situation out.
*

i know this is from several pages ago but i can't let it go. yes, america is rich and we're in a war but you have no right to say that. most of the americans have no say in the war and within our own country we got protests. how DARE you put the blame and thousands of innocent natural disaster victims? how dare you say 'sort their own situation out'? i'm aware of how indifferent and cold the world can be nowadays. but let's dig deep and find what little humanity we have left, ok?

The Wheather Channel also say you can call- 1-800-HELP-NOW
or log on to redcross.org
^ sorry if thats spam, im just pointing out that a national placy thingy recomend that place, so it must be safe.

I don't think this is advertising either, because the people who are rasing money arn't keeping it for themslefs, there helping other people and maybe some fellow cBers.

Um, no. I meant ADD because I thought she changed the subject rather abruptly. meaning first we were talking about one thing and then she started with another, jumped from one thing to another... i also know the differences between the two disorders, by the way.

and no, that's not advertising. it's rather appropriate for this topic.

my family donated $400 through amazon to the red cross. i guess that's the least we can do in a situation like this.

im defniitely happy that there are over 36 countries helping out compared to the 20 that were in the beginning...but to be quite honest, that STILL isn't as much as i anticipated.

woahh...i'm surprised the U.K. and France want to help.

Well from you bringing this up, i decided to say what i was gonna say in a responce to him, anyways they could of evacuated people ealier, or at least be prepared, for something big to happen and have the money, food, and aid ready.

See this is another reason i hate bush. (sorry again, republicans)

two can play that game. a lot of those people should have gotten the heck out of there instead of waiting to be stranded. < not including those who do not have the means to leave.

Honestly I think this is devastating. I just feel really sad everytime I watch the news, because it makes me realize how truly blessed I am.

I also mos def believe that Kanye is really telling the truth in that film clip.

The modern rock station has been collecting money in exchange for song requests - ANY song request. They played Macho Man last night. Anyway someone just donated $7000 (yes, seven thousand) so that they'd have a even total of half a million dollars raised by listeners in 3 days.
