Senses Fail is already mainstream, just not cross country as bands like GC and Green Day and such. I bet if you go to a big city such as Chicago or New York and visit a large high school about 70-80% of the students will say they like, have heard, or hate Senses Fail. Unless its one of them ghetto schools, I dont think they listen to Senses Fail laugh.gif

I agree with you.. *points to quote* and secondly Green Day has been Green Day for 15 years. Just thought I would point that out to you newbies. whistling.gif

yah def kinda ruins it for me. Like I used to listen to Switchfoot years ago, and now their "dare you to move" song became popular and then everyone started liking them. Same with the band Chevelle...

I knew that! And I think I'm one of the few people that actually know Dookie was not their first album. laugh.gif But yeah, as for the topic...it irks me when one of my favorite bands goes mainstream. Call me selfish or whatever you want - I hate it when thirteen year-old girls walk around my school saying, "OH MY GOD I LOVE BILLY TALENT!" *Cough* Well, not Billy Talent [yet], but with My Chemical Romance...

oh ya everybodys always like "Oh, Em Gee Coheed and Cambria sucks why are you so obsessed with them." 99.9% of the time they've only heard A Favor House Atlantic, their worst song. And I've been listening to Weezer, a band thats been around almost 15 years, for 4 years, and everybodys like "Ya BEVERLY HILLS THATS WHERE I WANT TO BE!" and they act obsessed with them when they've only even heard one song...

Yah, I HATE it. Like there was a concert and the opener was one of my favorite singers (Bonnie McKee) and no one had ever heard of her, then the next day at school, everyone was like OMG SHE WAS SO GOOD I LOVE HER!!!!1!1!!!

i don't care.

it just means people won't go 'huh" when i say my favorite bands.

then again, my favorite bands are mainstream.
but oh well.

sucess is kind of the goal of every band- so it's kind of given that if a band you like is good, they'll probably want to be mainstream.

^Yeah. I've learned to get over it. It's not the biggest deal in the world. Sure, it can be annoying, but at least bands you like are making it big. And when you think about it, most bands don't stay popular forever.

You people can't do anything on how the audience react to the popular/mainstream bands mellow.gif just leave it alone. And I'm not one of those audience who is like "OMFG!!! I sooo love blahblahblah" just because they're popular and shit.

I don't really care if any of my favourite musicians become popular or are popular. I care about the music they fcking make.

Best thing to do is support your music/band.

Music is freedom.

i agree it does ruin it, since lots of ppl just like certain bands because they're popular. but it doesnt mean i hate the band just because they become popular, unless that becoming popular makes them change their sound to more mainstream style... i guess...

Yeah, it's pretty damn annoying.
Although the only band I can come up with that I like that a bunch of kids ruined is Green Day.

I don't think Dookie was their first album. Try "1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours". wink.gif (I may be wrong. hah. oh well.) and I also think that Kerplunk was earlier than Dookie. T_T

I don't really care. _unsure.gif I've been listening to My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and Relient K LONG before they got on MTV. They gained new fans because of their popularity? So be it. The band should be proud...and the true fans should be proud too.

i hate when really good bands go popular. it's happened to lots of bands i like. a really good example is good charlotte...their first cd was amazingly good..the young and the hopeless (which got them popular is alright), and their newest cd just plain sucked. i hate how they have all these teenybopper fans now,and how their music has changed for the worse. my chemical romance is going down the same path....they have a debut album which was awesome, that hardly any of their new "fans" even know about..they have a good 2nd album, are #1 on trl, and now tons of teenyboppers are obsessed with them just because of helena and i'm not ok. i love mcr though, and i really hope their 3rd cd doesn't suck like good charlotte's did. fall out boy is also getting way too popular too fast. sugar we're going down is super overplayed, and now people that never liked them before are obsessed. it's a shame about green day..they've been around for 15 years..and most people have no appreciation for their older(better) stuff. i mean i guess bands deserve to get all the success, but it usually(not always), has a negative effect on their music.
other bands i see this happening to(sadly): relient k, senses fail, and hawthorne heights

^ the young and the hopeless is targeted at teenyboppers.

mayhaps why people think these bands are ruined by popularity is they grow older, and find they like the music less. However, the older music they used to like, and will still like out of nostalgia. when presented with music targeted at the same age group- the one that they have grown out of- they will find it worse than the songs they already knew.

^true tongue.gif when I was young .. I memorized many songs of Spice Girls and I would lip synch [sp?] to Backstreet Boys laugh.gif

I stopped listening to those [duh]. And right now, I listen to a variety [fav. ones are indie, alterna, electro] of rock music.

Yes. It's been happening to Dir en grey... now their music is nothing like their indies music, not to mention that the quality of their recent songs just lacks something....

This has been happening to me for a while.. The earliest I can remember is Saves the Day and New Found Glory, but yeah, I've gotten to the point where I don't care, I will just drop the band and get a new one. I am NOT LOYAL to the bands I listen to at all. I'm trying to change this about myself, but meh, why try to go to a FOB show when you know a thousand of screaming girls will ruin it for you?
