QUOTE(mipadi @ Aug 14 2005, 9:59 PM) Just out of curiosity: are there that many people around here that run Linux full-time, or almost full-time? There seem to be a lot of posts alluding to that. Well, windows is less freeing than linux, and linux is virtually 100% Virus proof. Those who know programming usually 90% run linux because it allows so much more, has so much more, and IT'S FREE! |

Trust me, I'm well-versed in the relative merits of Unix and Unix-like operating systems. |

i don't have linux... not yet anyways.
i blame my lack of a CD burner. i was going to try it on an old comptuer, but i can't burn a CD-R that it will read. i can't burn a CD-R period. stupid combo drive gave out. i think the biggest obstecle to people getting linux is the number of distros. if it were like firefox, i'd so have gotten it already. but even after i chose a distro, i had no idea what processor i was on (uneducated in the verses of techyness i was). then i figured it out, but it still took a while. it'd be nice if there was just a base linux distro that you downloaded, and you installed modules for whatever feature you wanted. (now someone will tell me there's a distro like that. my CD burner gave out. :-( so it's still no help to me. ) |

But it would be a tremendous pain in the ass. |

lol. regarding the specs...who needs all that...seriously? my preference...laptop...
- 3 GHz - 512 M RAM - 40-50G HD - CDRW/DVDRW drive - 14.1" screen... that's it really...more will cost like hell. this config is real cheap.. i think.. it's wasting stuff to have like 300 G's and not really needing them all..at least in my personal opinion..i.e. need, not want... |
