As a matter of preference, I like rock music better.

I don't appreciate most of the rap out there because a lot of the mainstream has something to do with drinking, getting high, or getting laid. Some of it is downright disrespectful to women. But, I don't deny that there is some rap out there with a good message. I'm not opposed to listening to Dilated Peoples now and then.

Exactly...except for the Dilated Peoples part...I dunno who they are.

I'm a rock girl, through and through. I mostly hate rap.

RAP; (VErb)

a.) A reason to pay losers who had a bad life (ex; Eminem)
b.) Noise polution
c.) Good shit to dance to

now you wouldn't like it if i was all ignorant about emo:

emo: a bunch of bitches whining and crying. if you cry less than once a day, you are not emo. also, homos whining over lost homo lovers.

see?

now go to the underground music thread and educate yourself. =]

You're the reason I get so much crap for listening to rock and being black.
Black people invented rock, believe it or not by the way.

White people just "took it" and made it better.

anyway, i listen to both, having being raised on rap all my life and then making a switch to rock, I can say that rock is better to me, and I honestly have a better time listening to rock and going to rap than I do rap.

see, you can't really pigeonhole rock. Rock is a broad f**king genre. There's progressive rock, indie rock, hard rock, post-rock, alternative rock, etc etc.

Rap is pretty much rap...so it does have a tendency to grow old quick with me. Also, why do rappers feel the need to release so many remixes? that's not cool.

and if you're gonna bring up emo, please know what you're talking about, since emo stands for emotional hardcore and it doesn't = whining and crying.

Well, it depends...

Personally, I prefer rock music. The members are talented when it comes to singing, and playing instruments, and writing lyrics as well.

Rap music, It's pretty much rythmic poem reading, with catchy beats in the background. Though rap music IS pretty good, I don't like the idea that so many rap stars only rap about sex and drive-by shootings and stuff like that. If they all talk about stuff like that, won't that send the wrong message to the public? It will make people think that african americans are all gangsters! I just don't understand that about Rap.

Rock music does have it's flaws too. Sometimes, just screaming is considered music in rock. What does that have to do with vocal talent? Nothing! Some vocalists can just scream their way onto top charts, which is just annoying. Other times, artist's songs on albums can all sound absolutely the same, every song. Alot of artists just don't experiment with other types of rock genre! If they reach out to more genres, they can reach out to more people! But that's mainly Mainstream rock. Other rock, I don't care about, except emo.

Yeah. That's my opinion. Both have their flaws, but both can be good.

i`d choose rap because they always come up with beats for everyone to dance too, but then again, rock has some meaningful and deep lyrics that you just can`t get out of your mind. both are equal in my opinion. ahhh! but i`d go with rap since i`m a big fan of it rather than rock.

Well said.

I get crap about  listening to some types of rock--and being black too. Like someone will ask what I'm listening to on my iPod..and I'll say "Natasha Bedingfield--These Words"...and I'll get something like, "WHAT??? Isn't that POP? Aren't you black?!?!?"

Good music, is good music.
