QUOTE(uninspiredfae @ Aug 4 2005, 10:27 PM)
Actually, if you'd read my post in this thread (the 3rd) and this (the fourth)... I mean, it's not that hard to say something more than "welcome, read the rules".

I don't see a point in welcoming someone, when you don't mean it.

And the point of this isn't to limit what a person can say to welcome another, the point of this is that too many people are copying and pasting their welcomes, which defeats the purpose. I was in a thread where people were welcoming a person while not realizing that the dude was a long time member and was coming back to the forum. The guy says "I was here before but now I'm back" in plain words. The least people could say was "welcome back" instead of the mundane "welcome read the rules".

i get what you're saying. i mean i see whats wrong with that, but what that rupert girl is doing is getting old. shes bumping really old topics, and i had already p/med stephinika about it because its not giving other newbies a chance.

Okay, yes. It kind of ticks me off. But is there anything we can actually do about it?
I mean, we can't just ban people from copying and pasting.

yeah, they should add introductions to the list of forums that don't count

i agree, that way, people will welcome new people because they want to, not because they can get an easy access to be an official member and mooch off of the resources.

Or maybe the introduction topics are older than one week should be closed? That would prevent people from bumping up old intro topics to add post count.

I think the posts should still count but disable the copy and pasting!

Ah yes, I agree with Winnie. Old topics should not be brought up from the dead just to raise post count mad.gif

You can warn them for doing it. There's no way to stop them completely, but warning them could help.

I can't understand anything except for ' you can't actually stop people doing it'. Though we can't stop them, I guess I was hoping that we can prevent their lazy, fake welcomes by not letting their post count go up?

Is there a way we could report the copy and patsed(sp maybe?) posts, and then a mod could remove it, or take away the post count received from it?

That's a good idea, to at least stop the bumping part.

Maybe we could just warn the eprson, like 3 strikes you're out? The third time caught you get suspened for a week or something along those lines? Just a thought...

Why ? blink.gif

Why what? well, if you're talking about the "what are you listening to", then i meant that it should be in forum games and not count towards your post count because people (like me) constantly post in it, and you can basically get your post count up by saying what you're listening to every minute.

Well Cayte, perhaps you shouldn't constantly post in it and venture elsewhere on the site more often.

QUOTE(brownsugar08 @ Aug 9 2005, 4:01 PM)
To elaborate on this..this is part of what I posted in the "What does your shirt say right now" thread.
Basically..if "What does your shirt say right now" belongs in forum games, then so do games like the ones I stated above.

But personally, I don't think any of them are games. They have no plot, it's not entertaining..it's not interesting.
*

*raises hand* that was me.

Sorry about that. A lot few of the games in the games section isn't very entertaining nor interesting but we deal with them all the same. When I ventured into the "what does your shirt says" topic and saw the topic starter say "Lets all see how long this post will last. lets keep it going", I only thought, sounds like a game and what a way to invite a bunch of short answers that'll boost up people's post count. I completely forgot about topics like it. Anyway, it will be moved back eventually.

But you know, wouldn't the current weather game belong elsewhere, too?

I do. But when I'm posting in that thread, it's not to get my post count up. But other people, especially ones that just joined, may take it as an opprotunity (sp??) to get theirs up so that they can become an official member, designer, etc.

^ as long as the replies aren't spam & they are contributing to the topic, there's nothing wrong with it.

some people do that in the debate forum. like a newbie comes and they make a topic in debate about...oh, idk...GOD. so she makes this topic making her post count equal 1. then she REALLY gets into the debate replies a whole bunch of times commenting on what others have said, bringing up new points and what-not. yeah, they could get 50 posts in one thread. ;\

that's true. but atleast they are creating sentences worth of responses and not just "Fallout Boy - Grand Theft Autumn". The "what are you listening to" topic isn't for discussing anything, it's simply for posting what you're listening to at the moment. I doubt that all of the cB members read through each page of the topic. that would be silly, nonetheless. Especially since there's a new page in the topic every 5 minutes.

what really bugs me is the copying and pasting. yeah.

it's a good thing that I post different words on every introduction I have ever done before. but, it's just a introduction. you may be stealing an introduction from someone else, but it's JUST an introduction.

the post will expire and then move on to the next post. rolleyes.gif
