how about posting all the rules that members are supposed to follow?

if people are expected to follow it, then post it.

like, don't post a picture at the end of every post because it eats up bandwith.

how about posting it somewhere?

and don't post a quote at the end of a thread with a link to a poll asking peopel to vote.

how about putting it somewhere?

I can't help but notice those are two things you have been guilty of doing as of late.

Let me take a guess at a sequence of events: you did something that most sensible people would know others would find annoying (in fact, I hazard to guess you did it because you knew other people would find it annoying). A moderator or admin told you to stop because it was against the rules. You then disagreed, citing that nowhere are such rules posted, and argued that you should be allowed to continue with said behavior because it is not "against the rules."

Let's be honest: in life, there are some things the average, sensible person knows should not be done. I hope the webboard here is not coming to a point where we must compile a list of every possible annoying or inappropriate thing a member does or could do, simply so a mod can link to a list and say "That's against the rules." The average age of the users here are in the 12-18 range, I believe; that is a point where a sensible person should be able to know what is and is not appropriate, or at least can accept it when a mod says "That's against policy" without insisting on a written list of rules.

Basically, it's a matter of being mature, and not being whiny when someone points out inappropriate behavior. Now, many so-called "intelligent" people like to try to "beat the system" by doing things not specifically prohibited, but there's a point where that becomes immature and not an appropriate way to act in public. There's also a point where that becomes not intelligent or "thinking outside the box"; it just becomes annoying and whiny.

Certainly there are some rules that need clarified, such as rules prohibiting support of piracy, rules about the content of posts that might be ambiguous, and so forth. But I don't think we need rules such as "Don't post a big picture manually at the bottom of every post in order to circumvent the signature rule" or "Don't post annoying information on a feature you don't like at the bottom of every post."

Let's be honest for a minute: if people don't like the new "Big Brother" feature, there is a thread they can vote/discuss the topic in. It does not need to be linked to in every post, especially ones that have no discussion relating to that feature. If people are that concerned about it, the thread is simple to find.

But of course, I don't think you seriously mean for rules such as this to be posted; this thread is yet another sarcastic attempt at getting attention. Sarcasm certainly has its place (I am guilting of employing it myself), but there is a time and a place for sarcasm, and when used wantonly, it belies the intelligence of the poster.

those two things are in the rules. its called SPAM. if you repeatedly post some thing in a topic that has nothing to do with it and instead belongs in a different topic, then yeah... there arent any unwritten rules...

no one told me it was actually against the rules. no one told me i had to stop. i stopped of my own accord. if in fact a moderator had PMed me and told me there was a rule against this, i would have stopped, but requested the rule be posted.

no mod had told me that's against policy. Once one did, i did stop. however, i do insist on a written list of rules. and what people deem appropriate vastly varies.

i wish you didn't put so much effort into backing something based on an assumption that isn't exactly right. i am being mature. someone told me that it was against policy- so i stopped. However, before then, people had merely pointed out that it was annoying, and so i continued doing so. Many mods had adressed both things without bothering to mention that they were against an unwritten rule.

then members should not be expected to follow such rules.

a simple "keep all content of your post on topic" rule would suffice.

i doubt everyone saw that there was a poll about it. Linking it in every post is like waving a campaign sign. i was merely drawing attention to the poll, for the benefit of those who don't know about it.

but i do. i do mean for such rules to be posted. i think i should know all the unwritten rules that i'm expected to follow. expecially if i'm not informed about it, even by mods, who merely point out it's annoying.

each post must be on topic. most all my posts were on topic. with the mere addition of something at the end. it is not spamming, nor is it advertising outside site.

it is off topic, but it's part of a post that as a whole is on topic, and so you can't consider it spam.

elephante.

EDIT: pooh. sorry for the double post. i saw at the bottom that there was someone replying so i thought by the time i was done there would be another post.

sadolakced acid, you whine over the littlest things.

Justin. stubborn.gif People had told you to stop more times than I had in the earlier previous conversation.

If you wanna wave a campaign banner, you can put in your sig, if you have room, just as everyone else wanting something done has done. Take example of Steven. Not that I was at all in support of some of the campaigns he had held, but at least he didn't do it obnoxiously and annoyingly.

Heather's right, it's spam. There's a rule for you. It doesn't matter if most of your post is on-topic. When we say don't spam, it means don't spam at all, not that you can spam a little as long as most of what you post isn't spam.

And stop with the elephante thing. None of this has anything to do with neither elephants nor whatever you consider elephantes to be.

people didn't tell me to stop. they said it was annoying, they engaged in personal attacks (for what purpose, i know not), but no one said "stop it, you're breaking a rule"

Pointless Posts
To enhance the experience of these forums, please do not post just for the sake of posts counts. We care more about what you say than how many times you can hit the "add reply" button. Spamming is a BIG no-no here. This includes double posting (posting two or more posts in a row), repeated posts (even in different threads), and anything unrelevant to the topic at hand.

QUOTE
Signatures
Signatures should not take up more than 300 pixels of vertical space (equivalent to 20 lines of text) and 573 pixels of horizontal space (to prevent from stretching). Signature images should be less than 100kB in filesize when combined. How you use the allotted space is entirely up to you.

Here's what I've been looking for. This is why your repeated "signature" of Amy Lee was not allowed.

THANK YOU worthy.gif

Justin, as much as I love you, you really need to quit being so whiny about this stuff. The whole elephante, Big Brother is watching, Amy Lee crap is getting really old and you're basically complaining or just being plain annoying in every single post that you make. And when the mods ask you to stop, you continue to persist on something that isn't worth fighting for. So stttooopppp, thanks. _smile.gif
