ever since summer started, my mom forced me to read. i really dislike reading. she said i had to read more chinese books because i can only talk, but cant write well. so i had to learn more. but i hate reading, especially chinese books. it really irritates me. i always try to learn how to enjoy reading chinese, but i always fail. now she's telling me to stop making all the vectors and blends and avatars. she said its a waste of time. i really dunno wat to do because tahts really the only thing i like...but my trial of photoshop is over very soon... stubborn.gif

Well, I guess all you can do is read like the wind and pretend to enjoy it...Or you could try making a deal with your mom. It never works for me, but I have several friends who find this method helpful.

but for the photoshop there is a free one called Gimp. it's not the best, but at least it's free.

You can always try telling her you'll read for an hour a day or something, and the rest of the time is yours. You could try to find a chinese book on computer graphics and stuff so it'll help your photoshop skills too.

Btw, you're lucky you can read and write and speak it already. I don't see why you should have to improve it.. I can ONLY speak the language

well what i might do is continue to play with photoshop and read kinda just make it balanced and once the trial ends just read and suck it up or make a compromise.

BUT ... remember NEVER ever, ARGUE with her just simply agree that you spend time too much on the computer but instead of reading try watching a movie, or other chinese related things.

Oh my. _unsure.gif I don't know what to say. That is pretty rude. You should tell your mother that you make graphics for a living. What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a professional webdesigner or a website maker person. Whatever. x] Something to do with computers. You should tell her that or something if she cares about your future. Speaking chinese is pretty good already if you ask me. stubborn.gif

well it doesnt sound so ironic cuz i live in hong kong. in fact im full chinese..hong kong-nese to be exact, but i go to an international school so i learn chinese (mandarin) AND english. i couldve been in a local school where i dotn learn any chinse and i would be typing likk dis? rolleyes.gif gosh..moms

i dont exactly know what to do, my mom is a doctor, and though she doesnt say it, she excepts one of us (me and my sister) to be a doctor. but i dont want to be one, i thought of becoming a designer, but i doubt i'll get a living, i also though of being a business woman, but i would probably die. honestly, the 'future' is so blurry for me, i dont even know if i can handle school. especially when me and my sister's personality and academic skills are such a contrast, i feel more stress. but my mom and dad doesnt know. sad.gif

Wow! You live in Hong Kong? So does my cousin![/random]

I sort of say you should take omgz_its_kimi's advice. It might actually work. I mean, my future is kind of blurry here too, but you have to start somewhere. And I guess I know why your mother wants you to read & write in chinese. Mine kind of does also. So.. I guess you should tell your mother you don't really want to read and tell her why and what you want to spend your time doing instead.

maybe you could make a deal with her -something like for every 15 min you read you get 45 min. of computer time...then just find some nice stories, like romance or comedies to read in chinese & dont stop reading until you finish the book, that way you won't get distracted _smile.gif

Education comes before vectors and avatars. Do what your mom wants you to do and then negotiate with her on a time where you can use the computer every day.

^^ Aww you take the fun out of it.

When my parents asked me what I wanted to take in High School, i signed up for every photoshop class I could. I want to do the design thing when I get old and have to live life out on my own. [/stupid commonality]

Read the books, real quickly, and then get back to blending and avatars.

Wow...I only understand Chinese and can read a bit, but I can't read a whole novel because I've never! I only have a little baby books that I read...

So, I understand more languages than my original language. Aww....It's okay to read books! It'll be fun! You can then brag about all the reading you've done over the summer! Ahahaha!
