Ok, so I'm trying to wrap my brain around how to make my page layout get to the place that I want it and I noticed a couple of things. First, this site provides layouts that don't use the xanga skin editor. Second, I hardly see any skins that do use the skin editor (even on the xanga site).
So my question is, why? At first glance it appears that the skin editor would be the way to go, since you can actually move the modules around instead of having to create custom modules to mimick the normal ones. That would have the bonus of not having to manually type in stuff like subscriptions, etc. into custom modules. Do people prefer to NOT use the skin editor mainly because it requires the user to have a premium account? If so, I can understand that. I just want to know whether there are any other reasons, because I'm about to try and learn how to use the skin editor unless there's a valid reason why not too. EDIT: here's the link to the xanga skin editor, if anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about: http://www.xanga.com/CLAF/skin.asp |

No one uses the skin editor, because no teen in their right mind what's to spend money every month on something like premium. Therefore, the skin editor is useless to most people. Besides that, CB specializes in free, non-premium Xanga layouts for the 'layout-impaired.'
The main reason, however, is that... Well, Xanga is really just a place to express yourself. Most people don't even have fancy skins, they just write, and write about how they feel. For something like that, there's really no need for premium in my eyes. |

Cool, that makes sense. I was worried that there might be some more sinister reason behind it all.
I like the skins found at CB. Im using one in fact. The only problem is that I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out how to modify the one i'm using to fit my needs. I just can't figure out the codes involved. When I looked at the skinning tutorial at the xanga site, it looked to be a bit more user friendly. Thanks for the quick reply. ![]() |

Welcome.
As for customizing skins, you might try looking at either of these. [ http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34220 ] [ http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48362 ] Also, you should also probably browse around in the Tutorials section. [ http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showforum=18 ] I suggest you learn simple HTML, div layers, and CSS before taking on any type of skin that requires editing. If you wish, you can also post your specific problem and I can try to help you. |

Thanks for the links. Yeah, I'm currently learning more about CSS and DIV tags as we speak. I knew about HTML before, but the rest is new. I'll make a new post if I have any specific help needs.
I appreciate the help! |

I want to know why no one has made a Xanga skin program that uses CSS and such. It'd make things a lot easier for everyone, if we had our own little front page or such to work with..instead of messing around with no idea how it's going to come out unless we keep reloading our Xanga's and keying in stuff.

You'll have to find someone who knows some programing language like C++ to code a program like that. Otherwise, just memorize the important xanga classes to modify. http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_intro.asp should get you started And.. nyah-nek0 is a mod now yay yay ![]() |
