Working out and losing weight

Ok lately I've been athletic. I ve been fat my whole life (go ahead laff it out) and for the past 3-4 years ive been playin basketball and i kick ass. So anyways im goin into highskool and wanna make JR. varsity basketball team. i need to lose weight and gain muscle.I used to be 220 before i joined my middle skool basketball team and practice helped alot and i lost weight. But now practice is over i need help on diets and excercises. im open to any suggestions

weight- around 180
height- 6'1"
and i got asthma...freekin second hand smoking
