i want to save up for a video camera, but i don't know which one to get..
i'm thinking a sony or canon. any advice? |

As far as inexpensive but excellent consumer cameras go, the Canon ZR series is great.

NO!
I have a Canon ZR65mc. After a year of gentle usage, the screen became black, and will no longer record anything anymore. I checked on the internet and many many many people had the same exact problem as me. The ZR series have faulty CCDs. I do not recommend purchasing one. Your best bet would be with JVC or Panasonic. |

Maybe yours was a fluke? I've used several models quite a bit, and they've all worked fine for me.

Um I've been using a Canon GL2...but I've saved since I was 8 years old (and now i'm 17) for something nice which ended up being that and that one is kind of expensive...
Link Here for the GL2 But if you want one cheaper I'd go with either This or This Sorry...I grew up in a family that does film so...if that isn't what you were looking for I'm so sowwwies. Save though--it's worth it if you save enough to get one over 1000. Oh yeah---btw all the videos on my site that I shot were shot with the GL2 and people tell me the quality is soo nice so definitely make sure the quality is good before you buy one otherwise you will be very unhappy with your results. |

But if you're just going to film home movies, just go for one in the $200-$400 range. The video quality was great, I had no complaints with that. By the way, I talked with Canon Factory Service Support and they offered to fix our camcorder for free. So if anyone has the same problem, call them and tell them you saw other people on the internet with the same problem. |
