Basis: Alabama Killings Caused By Grand Theft Auto?
Here's some more "evidence" that can and should be used in this debate: Negative/Against: video game censoring cop killing for kids Positive/For: video games help sick kids do video games prime your mind for violence? in defense of video games QUOTE There's no denying that many of the most popular video games are violent, but can a game really make children behave differently in the real world? Does repetitively playing a violent video game influence a child's actions more than watching a violent movie or TV show? What do you think? ---This excerpt was taken from reader's digest. So, what do all of you think? I know that there are many gamers on this board, not just video gamers, but computer gamers, RPG fans and online gamers as well. Many of the changes proposed by those "if we can't control it, then censor it or ban it!" government stiffs would effect not only video games, but computer games and online RPG/ gaming communities could and will be effected as well....is this what a free society does to topics and forms of entainment it doesn't agree with? How come parenting of kids only comes into play after they blow someone's head off at school or kill 3 cops? Why doesn't it matter when their kid(s) are spending 16 hours a day holed up in their rooms, clicking away at screens and killing on-screen beings with great and bloody gusto? I'm 19, I've played computer RPGs since I was 15 and I've been playing Xbox for over a year. I enjoy violent games as much the next person, the only difference is that I'm old enough to purchase the violent games I enjoy for myself. What kind of idiotic parents would buy those violent games for their 10 year old?? It just makes me cringe...I enjoy playling Manhunt and Fable, but I don't think it'd be a good idea to let my 8 year old niece play such games.... Conclusion: I think that a) parents need to stop blaming game developers and platform inventors for making violent games and b) they should take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror and ask "what the hell is going on with my family?". Stop blaming and start changing....don't take away your fellow citizens freedoms because you're too lazy/ too unaware to teach your kids that video games aren't real. |
