no, it isnt.

A couple years ago we were learning about disorders like bulimia and anorexia etc, and we seen really REALLY shocking pics. its wrong to wana look like that.

People should be aware of the fact that being in shape is good and healthy, but NOT as THIN , GAUNT and MALNUTRITIONED as that model, and many more like her. Please dont go down this road, and if you are bulimic / anorexic or making yourself throw up, see someone a.s.a.p , PLEASE.

It's not that anyone wants to look like that. Anorexia and bulimia are mental conditions in which a person looks in the mirror and sees fat, not a gaunt, undernourished person. No one says "I'm going to starve myself or throw up food so I have bones sticking out", but when they look in the mirror, what they see is a fat person.

that picture that was posted, is fake. its photoshopped. OF COURSE.
I've seen the original, it, along with many, many cliche examples.

it is NOT a choice. it is a mental DISEASE. like someone said, you think its a choice?
because you've seen it on xanga/lj/myspace/whatever.

those ladies [and sometimes males]
are what are called 'pro-ana' or 'pro-ED'
they promote, what they think is a choice, a diet, to starve, to vomit [purge]
at times, those girls that visit those websites are confused, and often get dragged into this whole mess of thinking its a choice.

those that think they can just 'stop' the behavior are IGNORANT AND USUALLY NOT SICK. well, they're sick..but in their another way..
Christ, I hate the glamorization of it. jesus, going on those sites makes me curl up and want to die.
'ana' 'mia'
'Hello, goodmorning mia, want to make my Life miserable today?'

there are OTHER eating disorders too, you know..?
Anorexia, Bulimia, Compulsive Over-eaters, ED-NOS [like I said before]
and..more.

so PLEASE. read up on them. don't go to some stupid girl's xanga, who thinks that 'ana is her goddess'

GO HERE

I've had issues with eating all my life,. didn't mean to preach, I'm just pissed, and my brain is bleeding from some of the things in this thread.

Come on, guys. Who really cares if that picture's fake or not? The truth is, there are people like that in this world... maybe not as skinny, but skinny enough.

look on xanga. girls make the choice to be anorexic. seriously. they say"im ana on and off" they decide. they purposely starve to be "beautiful"... they idolize beyonce.. which i don't understand because beyonce is one of those people who are trying to get the idea theat skinny is beutiful out of people's minds.  Really, if you go to xanga.com and go to the feautured sites there is at least one person in there who is/was anorexic. because they get points forcommenting on othere anorexic's pages.

that's like saying someone chooses to have depression or to be bipolar
anorexia is a DISEASE.

Argh.
I read the first page of this topic and couldn't continue due to people being idiotic.

What people have said about bulimia and anorexia being a mental disease, yes, they're correct. However, people aren't born with the gene to have an eating disorder, unlike people who have depression or manic depression or whatnot.
It starts out simple enough; you want to shed a few pounds faster than you could do it dieting and exercising. You lose those pounds, and think 'hey, that was pretty damn easy. Let's see if I can lose a few more.'
And so you continue. You lose the weight you've been meaning to lose, and you think, 'well, if I lost those so easily, why not reach for 10 more pounds dropped?'
And soon, it pretty much consumes your lifestyle. After a while, it does become part of your daily routine to not eat or to throw up. It becomes an addiction and part of your mentality to do so.

Er.
The point of this was to say that everyone who said that eating disorders are a mental disease are correct, but there's more to it than that.

And uh.
If you're like, 'wtf how does she know all this?!!?//oneone!!!CAPSLOCK!#*(@#'
It's because I'm anorexic myself.
So yeah.

at least you're posting to raise awareness. are you gettin help? edit// to xheartbreaker

that actress who played ally mcbeal was bulimic. Its psychological, like everyone's been saying xheartbreaker is also right when she said that it becomes a lifestyle after it becomes addictive.

Calista Flockhart was not bulimic, or has it never been confirmed/publicly stated.
there have been, however, rumors..
she did play a part in a movie..where she played a bulimic..

and its not a lifestyle..unless you consider an addiction and disease a lifestyle

Currently, no. My old therapist said I was being an attention seeker when I brought up the fact that I considered myself seriously anorexic, and once we talked about my eating habits and mindset about it, he decided I was.. unfortuantly, I quit going to him, so no, I'm not getting any help. -shrugs-

edit://

and its not a lifestyle..unless you consider an addiction and disease a lifestyle

Er. No offense meant, but it is a lifestyle. You base what you eat for the day upon whether it will make you gain weight or not. You exercise obsessively to shed off those last few pounds. It controls your life, pretty much; you can't go places with your friends if you're too weak from not eating; if you eat too much you refuse to go anywhere for fear of being taunted about being fat. Then there's the whole other matter of self-control, which interrupts your daily life as well.

what you just defined, is a disease, not a lifestyle.

a lifestyle is a choice

controlling yourself, food, and every thought that goes through your head is something that one cannot help.

Not a choice. not a lifestlye.

I'm not exactly talking out of my ass..I may be a mix of things when it comes to my eating and..well, life...but I know what an Eating Disorder is.
and what it's not..

I'm not bulemic and anorexic .. but back in 4th grade, I was eager to save money so I didn't eat lunch for a while mellow.gif

I think it somewhat affected me .. I'm not gaining weight anymore pinch.gif even though I eat .. not enough food? I dunno .. The whole summer vacation .. I eat like 2 times a day pinch.gif because I sleep late and wake up late pinch.gif sometimes I would at midnight/early morning [bread, cereal, waffles, chocolate, ice cream ermm.gif] sometimes I only eat 1 and a half a day if I would go out with my friends because yeah.. no time to eat mellow.gif

I weigh 92, I'm 14 turning 15 this Nov. and I'm 5'3 ish mellow.gif

.................

An eating disorder is a mental disease .. duh?

No, I could never make myself throw up. I already feel gross when I throw up unintentionally, and I especially couldn't do it now, knowing how bad the acid is for your teeth..

I would never make myself throw up on purpose. It would cause severe damage to my esophagus, throat, mouth, and teeth if I did it regularly.

And yes, eating disorders are a psychological thing, certainly not a choice. Like someone else on here said, it's like any other disorder. I don't choose to get panic attacks, obviously, it's just all a psychological thing.

And someone said that people who are anorexic idolize Beyonce? I don't think that's true at all. In fact, I think most girls who are anorexic think Beyonce isn't skinny enough, and they want to be skinnier.

Eating disorders are terrible, and I just wish parents could teach their kids from a young age to always love themselves. My mom still says bad things about my body image, and it's hard to convince your brain that there are better ways to feel good about yourself then starving.

No way, I hate when I throw up, so I certainly wouldn't like to make myself throw up. I read somewhere that it damages your throat, teeth, mouth, etc. _unsure.gif I'd rather stuff my face.

totally. Why would someone wanna make themself throw up to become skinny? Are they that desperate? I mean like if they wanna look nice and fit, maybe they should just think about excersing? Don't you think so? I mean forcing your body to throw up what you ate is a bit overrated. It doesn't need to come to the point where your all bones. Thats not needed. I would never make myself throw up just to be skinny.
