I don't know where this goes, but here goes anyway...
I'm 16 and I've been wearing glasses for a long time and I am really starting to hate them. I was thinking about getting contacts and I have my whole debate ready with my parents and my mom was like...ehh whatever your dad says but he was just...NO. That's it...his reason is that "I don't trust any technology that is at least 20 years old" and it is really stupid. My brother who is 23 has had contacts as soon as he turned 18 because he had the same problem but is there any way I can get them without my parents permission? There is no way that my mom would let me without my dad's permission, and he is really stubborn and I have tried asking him over and over again. I would pay for it myself, but the thing is I need my parents which cause the whole problem. If you are going to just tell me to wait...I really don't want to but if I have no choice I guess I'll have too.

well, contact don't really injure your eye or anything.. so it can be trusted.. i would get contacts too but i can't touch my eye, lol..
if i wanted them I would say like, it can improve my acidemic [sp] career. lol
or u can go on a glasses strike, don't wear ur glasses until they get u contact [but sneak them to school and wear them there, so ur not blind] that might work, lol biggrin.gif hope u get ur contacts!

dude. why would your dad think that? that's so absurd.

contacts DON'T do anything to your eyes.

i've had them for... 1 year, 1 week, 5 days. and it's done nothing to me.

i, like yourself, used to wear glasses too. i wore them from 3rd grade to the end of 8th grade when i realized i just didn't want glasses anymore.

and so, one day, i was like-- you know what? i'm gettin contacts. and yeah, here i am today.

just... i guess try to persuade him that contacts DONT do anything harmful to your eyes.

actually, i don't remember, but i don't think you need a parent's authorization or anything.

i just went--my sister took me--and got my eyes checked. and got contacts. that was it.

i might be wrong though.

{ im 13 } my mom bought me contacts i had to sign for something and my mom did..... they dont bother me.... they dont hurt..... you dont feel them at all and when you first get them there a dream come true.... erm in meaning their better than glasses{in my opinion}....... if you get some they come in boxes ill take a pic...

pic....

sorry for the bad quality its a $15 camera sad.gif ....

but they come in boxes like that and it comes with 6 seperate contacts in each box... 1 box for left eye..... 1 box for right eye...... each one lasts up to a month and if you take good care of them they'll last longer.....

but you probly know that.... lol.....

well i hope this helped?

Untrue; my aunt's an optometrist, so I know a bit on this. There are actually gas permeable contact lenses (in other words, hard contacts) that are corrective and lower your prescription by reducing the curviture of your eyes. However, gas permeable lenses are more of a hassle than soft lenses, and they also cost more.

Anyway, contacts do not, in any way, worsen your vision any faster than glasses do, at least to my knowledge. And as for your situation, I'm not sure if you need parental consent to get contacts. _unsure.gif Your best bet would be to talk to your optometrist.

I've been using contacts for about 4 years now and it has made my eyesight worse. I try to alternate between glasses and contacts though so that way my eyes can relax. I always have to be wearing glasses/contacts or else I pretty much can't see anything.. like right now if I wasn't wearing my glasses I wouldn't be able to read any of the content on this page. It's pretty bad. I'm looking into lasik eye surgery when I turn 18 next year. My dad got it done too so I trust that it will go smoothly. I suppose it just depends on the person. That's just me.

Once you get them you will forget you even had glasses. Everything will be much more comfortable. I don't think it's a bad investment.

Well I've had glasses ever since I was young and in order for me to read I need to be about 12 inches away so my eyes are pretty bad. I'm also thinking about surgery, but I have a few years before I decide to get it so I wanted contacts for now...I think I'm going to ask my brother to see if he can take me =)

This should be in The Lounge.
Well, I've been begging my parents for them, however they have a different reason. They said it could infect my eyes.

I think it's fine in the locker room. After all, it's not really off topic or anything. .... Yeah.

It's not that easy. You need to get your eyes checked and bring your prescription and all that junk that I can't remember anymore.

I'm 13 and I got contacts when I was 11 or 12.

It's not that big of a deal. Well, I guess it is. But I think you need someone to take you cause you need to get a prescription and a contact box for ONE eye is like 15 dollars. And since you have two eyes, it would probably be 30 dollars for 6 pairs that can last you... 12 weeks? But those are mine, you could buy different ones.

I think you could go with your brother but what would your dad say if he saw you without glasses? Wouldn't he know?

Uh glasses have been giving me a headache? Does anyone know how much it costs to actually get the whole doctor to prescribe stuff and all?

I got contacts in february this year and I love em. Everything is clearer when u wear contacts, it's a whole different experience from the glasses. Sometimes u don't even realize ur wearing them.

I'm not too sure about the vision getting worse...I think my vision has gotten a little worse, but it's probably cuz I stay on the computer all day so my eyes are exposed to light everyday. I only wear my contacts when I go outside, but other than that I always wear my glasses at home. I hated how my glasses would fall whenever I played basketball with my friends pinch.gif.

But overall, I think contacts are worth it.

wow. i'm going through the exact same thing you are. i came to realize (for sure) that i wanted contacts about a week ago. one thing that sucks for me about having glasses is when i get on a roller coster. i have to take them off and put it somewhere safe, and when you get off of the ride, you can't see you terrified face when you go see the picture they snapped of you because it's so far away!!! (i know that was random, but the whole glasses on roller coster thing has been pissing me off longer than i can remember, heh). my parents would let me, but i'm afraid because i don't really know to many people who have contacts...and i'm afraid that they might...hurt. people also tell me that i look funny with out them.

I don't have to wash the blood off after my nightly sprees.
