For about an hour last Monday, Dennis Rader described in harrowing detail his career as the BTK strangler. He explained how he trolled for victims and and prepared a "hit kit" of items he would need. In a matter-of-fact monotone, he relived each killing, starting with the Otero family in 1974: "I strangled Mrs. Otero... then I strangled Josephine... and then i went over and put a bag on Junior's head." Rader, 60, even gave a reason for his 17-year killing spree around Wichita to District Judge Gregory Waller: " it was a sexual fantasy, sir."
His confessions, though, gave no solace to the survivors. Rader is facing 175 years when he is sentenced August 17. (Kansas had no death penalty at the time of the murders), and Charlie Otero, 47, says he will be there to stare down the man who killed four members of his family. "I plan to let him feel the hate I have for him," says Otero. Rader's own family, who had no idea of his double life, is similarly devastated. His wife of 34 years, Paula, 57, has returned to work and is selling their house. "she's still trying to get her life back together," says her pastor Michael Clark. "She's got a long journey."

Confessions

"I really couldn't figure how to get in her house, so I finally just selected a concrete block and threw it through the glass plate window. After strangling Davis and putting her in the trunk of her car I realized I had lost one of my guns.... I went back to the house... and I found it right there, so that problem was solved."
Rader confesses to killing DOLORES DAVIS

" I didn't have a mask on or anything. They'd already ID'd me. And I made the decision to go ahead and put them down, I guess, or strangle them...I had never strangled anyone before, so I really didn't know how much pressure you had to put on a person or how long it would take"
Rader's murder of the OTERO FAMILY

" I dropped by once to check the mailbox to see what her name was. I found out where she worked. After knocking nobody answered the door, so i went around the back of the house, cut the phone lines....I broke in and waited for her to come home in the kitchen"
Rader confesses to the murder of NANCY FOX

this guy is a psycho! he creeps me out! thank god he was caught. I really wish he gets the chair... too bad that can't happen _dry.gif

That's so creepy -_-
What's the point of sentencing someone over life expentancy? Like 175 years, like hes gonna live that long.

It might be good to debate giving him the death penalty, life in prison or guilty by reason of insanity and sending him to a psychiatric facility. Any thoughts?

But then we would undoubtedly go into the topic of the morality of capital punishment, which is covered in the death penalty thread. I'm with mipadi on this one. Anyway, lets give it a chance... if I don't see anything worthy of debate in the next three-five posts it's going to go to the Lounge.

Well, lets see, from the information provided by the topic starter (meaning I don't know anything about the case), I say he should be sent on death roll. The sooner the better.

huh?wacko.gif

I don't see anything in that post that begins to come close to the details of the confession that started the thread. If a punishment that inflicts suffrage upon him is too much, how about time out?

I forgot community service. Maybe he could do yard work for the families of his victims. I'm sure they would appreciate the help.

I believe you mean sadist. A masochist is someone who enjoys pain inflicted on him/her; a sadist is someone who enjoys pain inflicted on others.

Life in jail I think is worse than being killed. Once you're killed there's nothing good or bad, but in jail it's all bad. I mean, how would you feel locked up 24/7. It would be boring as hell. I'm sure, people sentenced to "175 years" in prison would be thinking about suicide the whole time, staring at the ceiling like "GOD PLEASE TAKE ME!" But the police department would deprive them of tools to hang themselves with. So... I say the 175 years because he is one sick puppy.

ohh yea . i saw that with my mom.

its crazy how he described everything and its like nothing he did was wrong.

he actually was a church goer and like a leader in a lot of things but its so crazy. cause he said himself he turned into a monster but he couldnt stop.
some of the people from his church were intereviewed and said good things about him.

So can well all agree there's nothing to debate about? This is simply a discussion on how members think the vile man should be punished, right? So, it's going to the lounge until further notice.

Man, he fascinates me beyond all reasoning, and I'm not entirely sure why.
Serial killers are really interesting.

Well, anyway... that's very interesting.

that's kind of old news...

i first read about him in a cosmopolitan months ago before he was caught, that story freaked me out...my boyfriend and i were at a friend's house until 12-ish and then we walked back to my boyfriend's place, it was so dark (for some reason the city at night doesn't scare me but the suburbs scare me because there are so many places to hide, in a tree, behind a bush) and i clung onto my boyfriend because i was scared that some serial killer would pop out and kill us cry.gif he told me i was being silly.

that night turned out to be very interesting...

anyway, you forgot the part where he says that after he strangled one woman he tied up, he ejaculated on her. and by the way, if anyone is interested, BTK stands for "bind, torture, kill" it's pretty self explanatory.

I find it twisted that he was part of a church and his family knew nothing about it.

Wow.....I didn't know this story would be so big, never expect it from a tiny town in Kansas, eh? I live in the same city where BTK did his killing. It was total chaos when they assumed that BTK was on the loose last year. Scary too. ermm.gif

I am so freaking happy he was caught ohmy.gif. didn't he murder people in Kansas, or somewhere else? I remember it was Kansas or something. anyway, if so, it's only around 8 hours from where I live - Oh. My. God. But, it is such a good thing he was caught. Eek!

Where'd you get this from? There are A LOT of spelling mistakes, unless you copied it word to word onto this topic..
However, the BTK killer got a lot of plans for his victims.
Might as well kill him now.

It has something to do with chance for parole and that sort of thing.

A lot of people serving a "life sentence" aren't actually in jail for life.
