Filipinos ARE asian! Sure, the Philippines is an island in the Pacific, but so is Japan. Are they pacific islanders too? No. They're ASIANS.

Indonesians and Filipinos are properly termed Asian, since their island groups are considered part of the Asian continent, but not the Melanesians, Micronesians, and Polynesians of the central and southern Pacific, who are now often referred to collectively as Pacific Islanders.

I've argued with my friends about this. This bugs the hell out of me.

i am, too, filipino.

FILIPINOS ORIGINATED FROM SPAIN. Spain is part of Europe (although that doesnt either neccesarily make us European, either). Our culture emerged from both Pacific Islanders and Spaniards.

India is located in Asia, do we call them Asian? I don't know about you guys, but I dont. It doesn't matter, Asian or Pacific Islanders. But I consider us pacific islanders. We are too isolated from mainland Asia rather than Japan being closer to asia after i thought about it ><

Filipinos did not come from Spain. When Magellan landed in Cebu, there were already natives there.

Umm, I don't see how this is a debatable subject. The Phillipines are in Asia, and if you are from Asia means you're Asian. A lot of people don't see that Asians aren't just from China, Japan, Korea, or Vietnam.

uh... no.

Hawaiians are Pacific Islanders, which is a term used to describe an ethnic group or those of certain heritage, however they are also American by nationality. Meaning, it has nothing to do with sounding "cool" to say Hawaiians are American because by law, they are Americans. Usually applications ask for race or ethnic group and so Hawaiians may want to mark "Pacific Islander".

Note: NATIONALITY =/= (is not equal to) ETHINIC GROUP.

Anyway, there is nothing to debate about in this topic. Filipinos are Asian. Unless someone has anything else to say that hasn't been said about the topic, this thread is going to stay closed.
