Character extraction for psp9?, some help here?

can someone show me how to do a character extraction (example here) on paint shop pro 9? yes, i did look at the tutorial, but 1: it's for photoshop. yes, i know that you can substutite stuff from photoshop to psp, but i don't know how to do it for this. can someone please show me how to do it step by step? i would appreciate it SO much (:

..... Use the selection tools (freehand and rectangular) plus the eraser tool for cleaning up little mistakes.
For the selection tools, use freehand when you're trying to extract spikey hair or something with a lot of curves. The rectangular tool is more for erasing sections of the background.
If your background is mostly one color, you can try using the magic wand tool and see how that turns out.

.... Use the pen tool. I told you to do it with the selection tools, because it's much easier if you're semi-new to PSP. If you can't convert the tutorial, then I suggest you don't use the pen tool.
If you know how to use the pen tool, use it to extract the character. If you don't, use freehand selection instead.

Well you can always use the Erase Tool and do it.

ive done it lots of times. the best way is with the selection tool. u do mostly the same thing anyway
