i have no idea where to put this topic so if you think that i put it in the wrong place, feel free to move it...but anyways

i just got back from a mission trip to the Philippines. I spent two weeks there with my youth group and we called ourselves the L.I.F.E. team (L.I.F.E. stands for living in faith eternally). it was an awesome experience and i plan on going to many other mission trips in the future.

i was just wondering tho...have any of you guys been on a mission trip before?? I just think its great to travel and spread more of God's love happy.gif

I passed up on a Mexico mission trip to Tijuana a few years ago. Never was into that missionary-religion stuff.

I've never been one of those. Sounds interesting though.

you have no idea how poor it is down there....even the ghetto areas across america is better in comparison with the filipino makeshift homes. its so poor down there that they charge you to use the public restrooms and they charge you toilet paper also.

coming back to the states has really made me count my blessings, after what i saw in the Philippines.

What exactly would you consider a mission trip?

Because a lot of people consider it different things, so I just want to know before answering. =P

well, this was my very first mission trip and from what i experienced, its just basically spreading the gospel...what we did in this mission was we performed some drama skits and a dance that we practiced in preparation for the trip. we used these to minister out to the people. then we did our testimonies, in which we talked about how we came to know God.

were not trying to convert them... down there, the filippinos are hardcore catholics and we had to be careful of what we did to not offend them or even attack us... we just simply talked about God's love and left it at that. when they do decide to be christians, we introduce them to pastors that will help them in their spiritual development. these pastors make up a community of churches that are planted across the Philippines

Sounds like conversion to me. Just in different words.

"Help them in their spiritual development".... eh, for those that don't have a religion or even one's that do, just not yours.

Anyways, that's what I basically don't find attractive in Christianity, even though I'm Orthodox.

BUT, glad you had fun in the Philippines anyways. =]

NO! My friends tell me all the time how they go and re-build homes for elderly people or just people who dont have the money or materials to redo their old house... and it really is something I want to be apart of. It sounds so fun. I wanna try to do something like that, maybe go with a friend. Idk...
