Does anybody take music theory for instruments that they plan? For example.. Rudiments, Harmony, History, Counterpoint, Analysis etc;? Maybe its different in other countries {Im from Canada..} but some of these are mandatory for some instrument grade certificates.
Im currently in grade 8 piano and I just passed rudiments II and Im taking harmony 3 & history 3.. |

I took music theory, but it wasn't for a specific instrument--it was just general music theory. At my school, so few people took it, that it was an independent study course.

Everyone works under different systems
Harmony's a breeze?! My teacher makes everything more confusing than it already is {which is really confusing} and its harder than history for me ><" Except History's kind of boring.. |

QUOTE(mipadi @ Jul 8 2005, 5:30 AM) I took AP Music Theory. The class itself isn't hard, but I hear the AP test is really difficult. I didn't take the AP test. Since all classes are taught differently by different people, it's inaccurate to really guage APs by the actual class rather than the AP exam.

I took the RCM History 3 exam just recently...care to know how I studied for it?
- My exam was about 2 o clock, which meant I still had to attend 3 classes before that. I skipped those 3 classes and studied like crazy the day of the exam in the cafeteria. - I only studied/memorized the life and musical style of Bach and Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz during the caf cram session, and to my great surprise (and even greater luck), those were the two that were the essay topics. - I got 81 in the end, which is above-ish average, all by pure luck. ...and a little procrastination. |
