I like Evergreen Terrace, Still Remains, Sinai Beach, and Darkest Hour, but I'm kinda out of the loop here, it's been awhile since I was into hardcore/ HXC music. So I was wondering, what HXC bands are good enough to consider putting on a mix for someone who hasn't heard much of the genre? I'd really like to introduce my cousin to this type of music because she's kinda on the edge of the scene i.e. really into MCR, Hawthorne Heights, and other mainstream bs but shows a lot of potential. I think she'd really like this kind of music if she knew what was out there.

To keep it simple, just list your fave bands of the HXC or screamo genres and one or two songs by each artist. I'd really like it if the responses were kept positive on this thread. If you don't like the genres here, then don't reply. It's pretty simple.

PS- I Searched For A Similar Thread With No Luck.

thanks for all of the suggestions.

PS- The reason why I used hxc instead of typing out "christian hardcore" is because I wasn't sure if if it would fit in the thread title line with the other stuff. Also, some bands don't label themselves as HXC or Christian, yet sound like it.

I'm kinda good with this stuff, but I assume you mean bands that sing and then scream, and the whole metalcore genre, not actual hardcore and screamo bands (because the first reply you got isn't really...the catchy stuff I think you're looking for. I mean it's really good stuff but doesn't exactly sound like the stuff I think you're going for).

Anyway, I know some of these were mentioned already but oh well.
Every Time I Die--Ebolarama, She's My Rushmore

Norma Jean--The Entire World is Counting On Me..., The Shotgun Message

Zao--The Last Revelation, Truly, Truly, This Is The End

Fear Before The March of Flames--too many good songs to name, but take these ones: On The Bright Side, She Could Choke, The State Of Texas Vs. Fear Before, and Should Have Stayed In The Shallows

HORSE the band--can't miss this band, everyone calls them Nintendocore biggrin.gif, check out: Sevententacles and Eight Flames, and Bunnies

From Autumn To Ashes--Take Her To The Music Store should hook you, but also check out The After Dinner Payback and Short Stories with Tragic Endings

Lastly, because I know I am running out of bands to name, Haste The Day, check out Substance and Blue 42.

But I do better with the shitty mainstream HH-MCR type of bands, so I have a lot more to recommend in that category.

From First To Last- Ride The Wings of Pestilence. Enough said.
Underoath (the band's new cd) - Young And Aspiring, A Boy Brushed Red, Living In Black And White, I'm Content With Losing
Emery - Walls, they also did a good cover of "Holding Out For a Hero"
The Receiving End of Sirens - Planning a Prison Break, The Rival Cycle, Broadcast Quality
Senses Fail...catchy stuff here, I wish I could name all their songs, but check out Stephen and Free Fall Without a Parachute, and then Tie Her Down, Buried a Lie, and You're Cute When You Scream.
Matchbook Romance - horribly generic band, but I'll list anyway. Promise and Your Stories My Alibis are two good songs.
Emanuel - Just get their new cd. Every song is great.
A Static Lullaby - The Shooting Star That Destroyed Us All, Radio Flyer's Last Journey
Across Five Aprils - sadly I can't think of any of their songs.
Atreyu - The Crimson, Bleeding Mascara, Lipgloss and Black, Tulips are Better
My American Heart - Don't Sleep, This Won't Stop, Maps around Texas.
I assume you've already heard of Thrice and Thursday, but if you haven't, they're a must-listen-to, mainstream wise.

That's because the bands I listed are actual hardcore bands. Not any of that shit you listed. What you listed is post-hardcore, metal--BASICALLY NOT HARDCORE. Mediocre bands trying to get into the hardcore scene, but fail horribly. Don't get me wrong, I listen to some of the bands you listed, but c'mon, half of the shit you listed is P**sy crap. If someone who really listened to REAL hardcore, they'd laugh in your face and think you were stupid to even consider any of those bands "hardcore."

Most of what I listed is real hardcore.

STOP RIGHT THERE. "hxc" IS NOT CHRISTIAN HARDCORE.

seriously, do not attempt to even get into the hardcore scene, if you think hxc means christian hardcore. "HXC" is HARDCORE. not christian, not buddha, not any religion or anything else. just straight up HARDCORE.

REAL hardcore, you mean like: Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Blood For Blood, Cro-Mags, Life of Agony, Biohazard, Black Flag, Gorilla Biscuits, Helmet (by connection not content), Rise Against, Minor Threat, and bunches of other bands from back in the day, NOT all this modern stuff. Give credit where it is due, without those bands and many others, your precious scene and all that goes with it would not exist.

Also, without the efforts of such bands as Thursday, Hatebreed, KSE, and many others, your scene would not be as popular as it is today and many of your precious bands would still be playing in their basements, unable to get a record deal. And without bands like Death, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, Prong and countless others, all that is hard about your music would never have been. Modern hardcore music is monotonous and completely dependant upon breakdowns, not mention repetative. Hardcore bands tend to deal with the same topics over and over again and I find the songs lacking authenticity, they're just boring re-representations....

do not attempt to even get into the hardcore scene, if you think hxc means christian hardcore<<< I have no desire to do so.

hxc...can mean christian hardcore in some circles, so don't discount it just because you and your friends don't use it that way doesn't mean that no one else does, either. the "x" in hxc technically stands for straight-edge, which can be and sometimes is associated with the Christian sect of the hardcore scene. I meant no disrespect when I referred to the genre as hxc and hardcore covers a varied and broad collection of metal/punk/christian subgenres. Another reason why I referred to it as "christian hardcore" in my post is that my cousin is a Christian and I wanted help in finding bands that she'd like and that wouldn't clash with her beliefs. I respect others beliefs even if I don't agree with them.

it is arguments such as these that caused me to leave the scene. I was once a hardcore kid, but I gave up the scene because so little of it is positive anymore. It's all about fashion and bs, not about the music. The positive attitudes that used to surround the scene back in its heyday and even more recently before hardcore entered the mainstream, aren't really there anymore, at least not where I live.

I'm not here to make judgements about people or their tastes. I don't really like hardcore except for a few select bands and I'm more into other genres. I am friends with a few hardcore people, who are involved with the scene and I still go to shows every once in awhile. I'm just tired of people trashing others who aren't part of the scene.

PS- What's up with hoods tied around your faces? And the guys wearing girls pants?? <<<It's all fashion..... blink.gif

Yes, that is real hardcore. What I listed is also real hardcore. I didn't say "those bands started hardcore!" Hardcore obviously generated from punk/ska, etc and eventually evolved into the hardcore 'scene.'

for more bands: http://hxc.com/

honestly though, hxc is not hardcore christian. lmfao.

As far as bands go for your friend, please don't shove crappy music on there, even if it's her style. If she likes that kind of stuff, find bands that are decent, that have similar music, then for the mix, put the songs on there from her taste, and have the songs work up to amazing hardcore bands to get her into the good stuff.

after all that, i think i need to go listen to good clean fun.

time to get positively posi!

well, I just wanted to make sure that some credit was given to those bands, esp. since I'm really into Life of Agony (gonna go see 'em on the 16th), Helmet, Prong, Blood for Blood (just true to the game) and Sick Of It All (f*n amazing band that they are.) Old school hardcore bands are oft overlooked and it's a damn shame that they are, since they started it all.

oh, and I wanted to add, there's going to be a volume 2 of my mix, so the harder stuff will go on that mix.

and for the scene, it's always been hardcore and it's always been a scene. since it started in the late 80s until this very moment, it's always been a different scene that the punk scene....the angry, pissed off part of the punk scene, closest to metal.

No, not actually. All music evolves from something else.

disco > dance > electronica > trance > ambient

i was obviously too lazy to put up more examples.

I'm really glad you adressed this. About time someone gave me a little challenge.

First off I'd like to say that I never said I was listing ACTUAL HARDCORE, and I don't know how exactly you misconstrued my words to think so. It's obvious the topic creator doesn't want to get into real hardcore...and yeah I know what real hardcore is.

What I listed was not post-hardcore/metal, hell, since you want to get technical, I'll break it down for you:
Every Time I Die, Zao, Norma Jean, Haste The Day, FATA, HORSE the band, Atreyu = Metalcore. Is it the purest and best form of metalcore? No, but it's decent and catchy and good for beginners to start exploring new genres.

Fear Before The March Of Flames = The closest thing I'll ever get to "mainstream screamo" (and yes, I know all about "real emo/screamo")

From First To Last, A Static Lullaby, etc... poppy stuff people always seem to mislabel as "screamo", and the only reason I listed them is because the topic creator said her cousin was into stuff like MCR and stuff...thought I'd just build up from there.

And in closing, I'm glad you know a lot more hardcore than me, but even if I did consider the stuff I listed as hardcore, you're still way out of line for saying that I need to be shot. That's something I'd never say to anyone, especially a new user to these forums. Oh and assumptions make you look like a snobby elitist, please don't try that with me.

I don't want to sound angry or offended (even though I slightly am), in truth I feel marvelous biggrin.gif

Why should I descriminate against your "new user" status? I'll say what I want to say, when I want to say it. I'm not going to hold back on comments, etc. If you took that "hgahahaahahaah, not only that but you should be shot. lmfao." then whatever, that's your deal, not mine.

Oh, why assume that assumptions make someone look like a snobby elitest?

I mean, come on, at least try not to contradict what you're saying.

I could've looked like: an idiot, dumbass, smart, insane, (insert adjective here).

Yeah SN&BK is very good but I can't believe you don't like The Curse! =O I love all the songs except for Right Side of the Bed, kinda poppy. But anyways...I really really want the Visions EP! I can't find it anywhere and it makes me sad. cry.gif But I have downloaded Who Died, Love is Illness, & Bleeding Hearts Shed No Tears, which makes me want it even more. pinch.gif
