Domains and hosting are two completely different things, you can get a domain for less than $5, hosting however comes much more expensive. Just having the rights to a webiste name dosnt give you hosting.

Edit: After looking at Dreamhost their cheapest hosting package is $9.95 a month with a $24.95 set up fee. All together that comes out to somewhere around $150 for 1 FREE domain registration, www.yourname.com, 3 full domains, 15 subdomains, 2400 MB Disk, 120 GB Transfer, 600 Mailboxes, 75 Shell/FTP Users. So all in all its a pretty good deal but as you can see no where close to $20 a year. And this is just with their current promotion, after february it will only be 1 full domain, 5 subdomains, 800 MB disk, 40 GB transfer, 60 mailboxes and only 15 shell/FTP users for the same price.

Seems alright, supports php and ftp. The unmetered bandwith is amazing for $8 a month, ive seen some before but it was usually at a compromise to the MB space. It looks like a decent host but I would have to do some research _smile.gif

That means the company has a good server, most professional hosts dont have a bandwith limit. Usually only free or very cheap hosts have metered bandwith. i have however seen some hosts ask $20 a month and then have metered bandwith... crazy.

Just host your MP3s at angelfire or something.
*

Haha wow Brianna, you took the words right outta my mouth. flowers.gif

Use angelfire, I do that. I actualyl HAD a website at angelfire, way before signing up for createBlog... I had it back in 2003. Since angelfire things that I have a website there, they don't delete my account. Angelfire lets people upload music and "hotlink it" (I believe that was the phrase), but they don't let people "hot link" images/graphics from their site... You get my drift? But the thing about angelfire is that you have to ACTUALLY have a webpage/site of some sort on there. Just upload a HTML onto angelfire on your webshell and it angelfire will fall for it.. wink.gif My friend does that =P

The music on my xanga is also from angelfire.

an average site needs AT MOST 100 mb of bandwith. it's not needed to have "unlimited" bandwith because you don't need it. unless you plan to have your site the next jennyspage.net or some kewliez teen mb. but that's not the point. i would find it hard to trust any so-called "professional" host who claims to have unlimited bandwith. there HAS to be limit. it's comman sense. if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. there are a lot of "profesional" hosts who *do not* provide unlimited bandwith and i bet they're are a lot better than ones who do.

100 MB of bandwith? Do you realize what youre saying? That means that if you have just one file on your site that is 25 MB is size than you will be able to only have 4 visitoes on your site in a month. In fact I have never even seen a free host --excluding geocities and all them because im not sure about them-- have less than 500 MB of monthly traffic. From any decent host you will usually get around 50 to unlimited gigs of bandwith. Unlimited bandwitdh does not exactly mean that you can use all of the companies bandwith, its more of a if you use way too much youre going to get kicked off of our site. Also I know a lot of "unlimited" bandwith hosts do not allow audio/video files to avoid having any dent in their servers. But I have had a friend who ran a very succesful site use nearly 300 GBs of bandwidth on an "unlimited" bandwidth host without any consequence.

I was very very pissed today. I was exploring my cpanel, and there was a page on bandwidth. Do you know wut it said?

"You have used 3% of your bandwidth this month."

I was like "WTF?!"

I'm going to call support tmrw and yell at them. I'm very pissed since I called before buying to verify that it was actually "unmetered."

what a rediculous post. My domain has only been measuring its bandwidth starting at January 5. That means it's been only four days. You know how much bandwidth I've used already? 1843 MB of data.

There's a dela right now at dreamhost that allows you to get 1 free registration and the 7.79 /month plan for 10 dollars for the entire year

I got it and my friend got it.

i'm surprised this isnt closed yet. this is sorta like advertising... or like requesting, etc. you should just put something in your signature next time. theres no need for a topic.

i agree. basically everyone has gmail now so the trade is pretty much pointless.
