I was at my friend's xanga just earlier and found this post about Bush banning Anime forever from the United States of America. Some moron who disguised his/her name as "The Undersigned" as written a letter to the President demanding him to BAN ANIME FROM THE STATES. Here's the letter:

QUOTE
To: George Bush

Here in America, we live in a climate of moral decay. What is the cause of this? It is called "anime". Anime is a perverse, evil, insiduous form of animation from the dark land of Japan, and is corrupting America's youth at unprecedented rates. Here are a few examples of anime which are circulating on the Internet and may very well be in your home:

1) Ah My Goddess: A sick and disgusting show which causes children under the age of 18 to think they are capable of love. The main female character is clearly under 18, and is forced into a romantic relationship by an older man who "wishes" for her to be his girlfriend forever. He even KISSES her, and she appears NAKED. That poor girl must be so confused.

2) Love Hina: I'm not even going to mention the unspeakable, disgusting, pedophilic, pornograhpic events which transpire during this show, but suffice it to say, groups of young men on Love Hina-fueled rampages are raping children at a level unheard of since the 60s.

If you are a parent or a decent human being, I urge you to sign this petition to ban all forms of anime in the United States. Anyone who is found in possesion of anime should be arrested and jailed for an exhorbant period of time. Anime is a dark scourge upon our beautiful nation, and we don't need this Japanese filth corrupting the hearts of the children.

As a resonsible Christian, I demand to see this garbage removed from our nation. Please sign this petition and send it to George Bush, your Congressman, and the makers/distributors of anime filth and depravity.

Do the right thing.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

You all love Anime, right? And want to watch it forever in your local USA stations? If so, please save it!!! SIGN THE PETITION....

Sign the Petition

yeah, theres no way in HELL this will ever happen. one the reason ;and i hate to say this is anime is like porn.....it's big business.
and Bush is always been about helping out big business. which leads to if he did ban anime he would have to ban porn and any other forms of sex and violent (al la video games...god forbid) as well.
plus look at some the cartoons in the states now. like Teen Titans (which i love) and the Justice League. has anyone seen those shows. they violent as hell. and kids getting in to fights and getting beat up by grown ups no less on those shows.
those shows were frown upon in the mid to late 90's because people were trying to do away with violent cartoons. and the 80's was full of them like G.I. Joe,He-Man,She-Ra, ThunderCats and Transformers.
the only reason cartoons like Teen Titans and Justice League are popping up is because cartoons here in the states can't compete with anime. they have to step it up.
it's all about big bussiness. plus what the viewer wants to see. before anime became as big as it was it was heavly an underground thing in fact FCC banned for a short time in the early 90's.
but so many people here wanted it, so there was no choice but to bring it over.
but sadly to say, most anime that make it to the states on tv is water down. ALOT! (thank god for DVD biggrin.gif ) but we still have it cause it's the people's choice.
and i think ; if this letter is real, it's written by some bible thumping control freak christian who doesn't know jack about anime.

which in no way am i dissing christian. hell i'm one (not a good one mind you whistling.gif ). but it's the "bible thumper" ones you need to watch out for. in their minds if it's not by the bible and god's law. it's against the bible and god's law.
like anyhing. you take from you see and hear what you chose to see and hear.
like if this person watched Naruto or Chrono Crusade she or he would say "that's evil, lil kids being abused, there always weapons being used. there demons in this show. HEATHENS YOUR ALL SINNNERS AND HEATHENS"
but i've seen these shows and i see nothing but morals and the truth about friendship and what's worth fighting for.
still to end my rant, bush couldn't stop anime in this country if he tried. and if he did it would've had happen on he's re-election run. everyone knows all the good stuff gets attack around that time (al la video games)
which if the next person who's running, wants to try to ban anime; i say go for it. and see if he'll get alot people's votes. almost half this country watches anime now. hell my mom watches it and she's close to 50.

One person's opinion isn't gonna change anything, byt Bush isn't that smart but i highly doubt that its gonna make it past the Congress. But I'll just sign the petition just for the heck of it.

He won't ban it.

I heard that Bush was only banning it on TV. I think he should. I like anime and all, but it's just DUBBED ANIME ON TV that bothers me. ARG. DIE.

Yeah, read this before, this thing's been talked about on almost every anime forums around! I think it's pretty dumb and stupide, clearly, the person who wrote it doesn't have a life. If he did ever ban it, imagine how the Japanese people will feel, the whole nation will turn against America, they will definately feel discriminated, anime is the life of Japan. Plus, economically, if you could only get anime from Japan, imagine, how many American anime fans out there who will spend money for anime in Japan, even if it were subtitled, I'm pretty sure, Japan's economy would benefit from such a ban. Anime companies will close down, Toy companies and bookstores may result in "potential" profit loss or lower sales levels, not to mention companies like HMV and Virgin, who have completely dedicated a section to anime in almost every store!

well ya never know. he could do it if he wanted to. he wants to ban abortions and gay marraiges too, even though there's a hell of a lot of people who would be in uproar if he did. probably just as many as there would be if anime was banned.

personally, i wouldn't care since i don't watch it, but it certainly wouldn't be fair. but ya never know. he could if he wanted to.

Dark land of Japan? ................?

Anyway, "the Undersigned" didn't even get the details of those animes right.

I'm not a Bush-supporter, but he's smart enough not to listen to only one person making a big deal out of some TV shows...

that is lame. If they remove anime they would also remove cartoon, since its a replica of anime. then kids would watch the boring news, animals jumping in the fields, etc. bleck

Exactly.

This is ridiculous. George Bush can't reply to every idiot out there that has an opinion. If people are so concerned why not ban and arrest those who watch porno?

Edit//

Okay, here I go on my rant:

There obviously would be a rebellion considering tons of people in Japan are making money from showing their cartoons in the US. And the people in the US enjoy anime as well. Just because there's a few people (which is definitely a minority) that dislike anime, doesn't mean that Bush is going to say "Oh, these people don't like anime? Well let's make it illegal to watch Japanese cartoons!"

It's a bit of prejudice if I can say so myself that they're assuming all Japanese cartoons are like this. Because they're not and it's a stereotype that they are. The writer only points out 2 shows that may not be the best shows in the world, but they do have good aspects as well. If people don't like anime, they shouldn't watch it. There is no real reason why it should be banned. It's not even legal for him to completely shut it out. Sure he's the president, but he needs to have some legal reinforcement to doing something so drastic.

Ugh... This is almost as annoying as that Bonzai Kitten crap.
