I contemplated starting a similar thread but I wasn't sure if it would get many responses.

If any of you have talked to me, it is apparent that I love jazz music. Hell, go to my Xanga and I have Miles Davis' summertime playing.

I've always been musically inclined and being musically inclined you tend to be exposed to more than just a set genre of music. From an early age, I would sit and listen to jazz radio stations, not knowing who anyone was but enjoying the music nonetheless.

As soon as I got a computer at 14, I did an immediate search on KaZaA for jazz. I latched onto Miles Davis and for the longest time, he was the only artist (of any genre) I would listen to in my free time. After a while, I caught wind of Coltane, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many more.

My point? My point is this: there are all types of bullshit stigmas with each genre of music. (Hiphop- thug, Emo- Pansy, Country- redneck, etc.) How can you do such a thing with such a pure form of music? Truth is; you can't. Jazz is universal. It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, black or white, straight or gay, etc. Anyone can listen to tjazz and jazz music can be the peace that somsone needs in their life.

What do you prefer? Vocal or Instrumental? Are you partial to brass or woodwinds? I can suggest some artists if you'd like.
