QUOTE The Refurb Angle Consumers have also complained that if you send your iPod to Apple for a new battery, the company would often send back refurbished or repaired iPods instead of the original unit. Again, Apple representatives do not deny this. The company will use refurbished or repaired units, but always give you a "fresh" battery. If you've personalized the chrome back of your iPod, Apple will make sure that the replacement iPod has the same personalization. I was kind of surprised that the company admits doing this, but representatives insist that giving customers repaired or refurbished parts is a common practice for hardware manufacturers. http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_...934376#continue I find that surprising because like...it's Apple. And Apple is really expensive, I always thought they would just give you a new iPod if you sent it in for battery replacement. And it also said: QUOTE There are also complaints that there's no way for consumers to know about this refurb-switch policy because the practice is only noted in very tiny print on the Apple site. QUOTE ...Apple now offers a comprehensive iPod Battery area on its site, and it's noted in standard-sized type that "Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $99, plus $6.95 shipping". It does say "replace your iPod." But neither this page nor others (like the guide to iPod battery replacement) that I scanned on Apple's site mentions that you might receive a refurbished or repaired iPod. I never knew Apple was so sneaky. ![]() |

QUOTE(sadolakced acid @ Jun 12 2005, 10:08 PM) i'm going to have to disagree with that. apple does not rank the highest in thier customer service. now, i'm not trying to start a war; i only know about iriver's customer service, so that's why i'm going to talk about it: iriver: call them. tell them your problem (it can be something as small as you hear pops in the music, or that the supplied case scratched the player. ) now; once you tell them your problem, you print something out, and then send your player (only the player) to them, and you get a new, boxed player. if your player is discontinued, they will ship you the replacement. if there is no replacement, they ship you the model with the closest features, and is more expensive than your model. sure; apple's customer service may be good, but that doesn't warrent saying they rank the highest. other companies rate higher. oh yea, and for legitment problems, they honor the warrenty well outside the one year. for free. I apologize, I did not mean to say they are the highest, but it is pretty much up there. iRiver's customer service sounds about the same as Apple's, except the new part(refurbished, as we discussed before). Only Apple will send you a box after you've contacted them so that you can send out your iPod. If you're lucky enough to be near a store, then they'll replace it on the spot. It even covers the crackling/busted earphones(although the ones Apple makes are horrendous...) QUOTE Are you kidding? Apples Customer Service with their iPods suck. My friends hold button broke. So he returned it, it worked when he got it back, But he tried his other buttons and his Play button didn't work either. Shortley thereafter his Hold button broke again. Eh, dunno what to say to that. I assume your friend went back to get it fixed? Did it work thereafter? Or did they replace it? |

Because refurbished doesn't neccesarily mean scratched. |

iPods are really in essence a waist of money, you can get the same thing from dell with BETTER support and warranty's for close to half the cost. You pay for the stupid name and the little apple logo.
