Should perfect attendence awards be discontinued?

No?
- Kids that are stupid get awards too (like someone I know)
- Awards kids that try hard to be at school and really make an effort
Yes?
- Encourages kids to go to school even if they're sick
- Contagious illnesses
- Is unfair if you are seriously sick, can't go to school and your mom lectures you about not getting enough awards (like my mom)

Okay, these aren't excellent reasons, but what do you think? I know it's not a big issue (maybe not an issue at all), but I'd appreciate your opinions.

If you're curious, I don't think there should be perfect attendence awards because I always strive to get an award or two, but I have .. how do I put this.. Erm illnesses (asthma, exzema, more), sometimes I just can't make it to school. To see someone that fails all the time, but still comes to school every day and get that award gets on my nerves because I work REALLY REALLY hard (and my teachers say so too) in the time that I am at school. sad.gif Oh well, what do you think?

It's no one's fault. Bacteria and viruses aren't anyone's fault. One cant' control their health. They can try their best to keep themselves well, but there are times where you get sick and can't go to school.  ermm.gif

I wouldn't care if I didn't recieve a perfect attendence award and I wouldn't be too excited if I recieved one either. Perfect attendence awards are invented by the school for the sole reason of trying to keep students in school. Schools lose money for every absence and a "perfect attendence" award might give some students another incentive to stay in school. I don't think many people aim to get a perfect attendence award.

May I suggest a perfect attendence award with excused absences allowed? What do you think about that?

I think they should. It gives kids something to aim for and makes them want to go to school. My brother was mad because he was breaking perfect attendence to go to Virginia for a basketball tournemetn for 3 days (one day being a Friday.) He eventually got over though because it was fun...I also heard colleges give out some money for perfect attendence so it can benifit in the future also.

Yeah, I agree with that. But then it would encourage kids to forge notes which could lead them into trouble in the future if they continued to do that and made it a habit. But that probably wouldn't be too big an issue.
