ok i just got used to dreamweaver and i downloaded a trial but i wanna know if there is anyway i can just use a rectangle tool to drag and make a box as a div layer, like instead of typing the code in and the absolute positioning???

did that make sense lol.

and does anyone know how can i get frontpage or dreamweaver for free???? like i know that CB doesnt support piracy but i am about to go to it cause i dont know how to get it any other way.

The good thing about using Dreamweaver for websites, is that you just open up PS or PSP, make the rulers visible, make a rectangle using the marquee tool, and calulate the difference between the sides and the edges of the image. This isn't like Xanga, where you'd have to experiment with it. You can position it before hand. =]

You really don't need Dreamweaver if you want to use div layers. AT least I don't, because it's more convenient the way I do. When you have your layout image open, make a rectangle with the marquee tool where you want the div layer to be. Then go to View>>Ruler. Then calculate the number of pixels between the side of the image and the rectangle and marquee. You can figure out the margin-top and margin-left. And use the exact same div layers that you do for Xanga. =]

yea, but i was talking about not calculating it tho like not making the code. i know you can make a reg square and calculate the rectangle but i was wondering if you can doo all of that by just making a rectangle on dreamweaver...

Oh, I've never really used Dreamweaver. It's complicated unless you read a few tutorials. http://www.pixel2life.com has many good ones.

I have Dreamweaver MX, but I use the good old Notepad. If you need more codes/scripts, you can always google it because there are tons of sites that provide them. And also tutorials on how to code HTML/PHP/CGI etc.
And, don't worry, I won't close this. =]

.... I don't know if this would be considered spam, or is even relevant to the question, but I believe if you have Mozilla/Firefox and you justthrow some codes together and save it as a HTML file, you can right-click on it and choose EDIT. Then if you click on your div layer, you can move it wherever you want without actually doing anything besides throwing together codes.
----
I don't know if you can do so with IE... I never tried.

Um, okay....
----
Let's say you have this for your coding ::
Save it as a HTML document in Notepad or whatever, then find it in your files.
Right-click on it and select Edit, it should be second and after Open.
Click for bad-quality screenshot.
A window should open with your document in it, click on approximately where you div layer should be, really far away from where it should be in this case. It should now have a thin, black border with little squares around it... Kinda like in MS Paint when you select.
Click for bad-quality screenshot.
The big square should allow you to drag the box to where you want it to be and the other little boxes allow you to re-size the div layer... This works well for overflow objects, but not so much for overflow:none; objects... You have to edit the final code for those. Is that kinda clear?

Ohhh. I see what you mean! lol I prefer the PS and ruler way because I find it easier to see the images. All I see are boxes with red X's. The images don't show up for me. Oh well. Thanks for explaining it. I still might try it sometime though. =)

Pandamonium-It opens up in Microsoft Word for me. I thought it would open in Notepad, so I got confused for a minute.

yeah, it opens up in MS word for me too. Maybe you have your "edit" function set to open up a specific program? What does it say in the window and all? I'd like to know, that sounds interesting.

Uh-oh... I'm saying things that don't work for other people again... 'kay... I've got no clue why it works for me 'cause I did it by accident while I was trying to open the file.
----
I swear, that's exactly what I do~! Maybe this only works in Mozilla and not Firefox. x.X
Click for Reili's bad-quality window screenshot.
That's what the window looks like....
----
The images don't show up for me
That's 'cause you gotta properly link the image, just like a normal webpage. Gee, don't you people have your layouts off in a seperate folder...? I've got one full of layout junk.... Or maybe I'm just being weird again... >.< Eek.

No, that's not what I mean.....
You have to link the file from your computer~! Unless they're all in the same folder or something, they don't work. Like you have a folder called 'Lyout' with an inner folder called 'Images'. If your main image was in the 'Images' folder, you use 'Images/image.jpg' or whatever, but other than that you need to direct-link or whatever you wanna call it your images. Like, if they're already uploaded.
----
Yeah, I sound really confusing. Nevermind... I get the feeling I'm being an idiot again.

I had it as all black before with bright red text..... Then it was bright blue, pink, and black text... I guess you could say I'm used to bright colors.
And I kinda need it because I can't wear my glasses while I'm looking at the screen sometimes, so I use it to tell where everything is.
----
Since this seems to only work if you have Mozilla, forget anything I said. >.< I'm babbling again... ARGH~!

... No, you don't have to sign up for another internet provider... The only reason I use Mozilla is that you get vitually no pop-up, except for those Flash ones, 'cause those are embedded into the coding. In any case, I find it better for browsing, 'cause it has tab browsing, which means you can have four or five windows in the same window. Also, you can install plug-ins that allow you to do cool things like open up pages in IE and shorten title bars... Erm, I'm no good at this. -.-u
