we could always start an "unofficial" voting thread for this mod business in the lounge with permission or not :P. im sure itd have some sort of impact on which people are considered or not

probably a negative impact, as they dont seem to want to hire 'popular members'... but ah well...

i've revised my view, and now think that the most workable and likely to succeed plan (lthough not the best imho) is to have the admins shortlist it, to at least remove any TOTAL incompetants, and then have he rest of staff have a straightforward vote

There was three pages worth of applications last time, so over 30 I know.
And like christina said, the poll max is 10

you can run a 'poll' just using text.

it won't be anonymous, unless you use PMs...

Like micron said, the whole voting for mod's thing would turn into a popularity contest. People would get modded not on their qualifications but on how well known they are. I personally like how it is.

well, not if the admin select the people they think will do a good job, and to narrow it down make a poll.

(this should be moved to the feedback forum...)

If they already think the the poeple will do a good job then why would they need a poll. I know where your going with that statement, but really, why would go they through all that when they are perfectly capable of making the choice themselves.

That is why you would have to say WHY you want that person to be modded, like specific reasons. Not just ohh they are qualified. And besides, it would just give the mods/admin a suggestion of who the cBers want.

thats makes sense and it wouldn't hurt since it is unofficial,

its not like we can vote more than once

10 should be enough right?

first come first serve, that would mean that the person applying was alert and aware of what was going on in cb, and not just some random lurker, does that make sense can you see what I'm trying to say

i dunno i think the people on opposing sides should find some middle ground, yeah the mods are great and all but there is always room for improvement.

or, take applications over a certain periods, admins/head staff and whatnot shortlist to get the final ten

heres another approach... the next time cB is hiring, there could be more requirements when applying...such as:

- you must be sponsered by one currently active moderator. (meaning you'd have to go find a mod that thinks you're worthy of the job, and they would give written consent, like: "I have agreed to sponser this member")

- you must supply two testimonials from your fellow members. (meaning not only do you have to find a mod to support you, but two other members. in the testimonial, they'll write why they think you're right for the job.)

THEN, if you wish, the admins can slim the list down to ten applicants for each position. (10 people staff candidates etc)

members would then vote (by poll) between those choices. that way, everyones happy? and it wouldnt be a popularity contest, because they would have to have been supported by one moderator and two other members. both admins and members would have a say in the decision.

couldn't someone just make two accounts? maybe the people sponsoring them should have a certain amout of posts or whatnot.

^ we can run an IP check if we suspect a member of doing that. and a mod would have to support them..

i like jess's idea. the mods should be involved since they know what it takes to be a mod, and are more involved with the members.

i like jess's idea as well.

sponsoorchip from mods assures that any candidte is of mod-quality (although maybe there ought to be a minimum of two mods, or more. its a little too easy just to twist arms if you only need one supporter). plus, it brings members into the arrangement, which is good for *insert assorted reasons pointed out throughout thread so far*

plus, it ensures that members do get to vote, and, b/c all candidates will have had to have been sponsored, even if it does come down to a popularity contest, (which i still dont think would be the case, but evidently some people have lower opinion sof cb members than i do, but w/e) then at least the 'popular vote' wil be qualified to do the job.
