I understand where you're coming from. People need to learn how to type correctly instead of TyPiNg lYk thIs. But honestly, you can't make a whole online forum type correctly. People are free to do what they want, even though what they do might become annoying.

Well actually jooleeah, since this is apparently quite an issue on this Forum, if the Administrators decided that they had seen enough poorly presented postings and the frustrations that it caused Members by detracting from posts, then it would not be a problem to introduce measures to advise all Members that only proper English spelling/syntax would be acceptable, with a small amount of abbreviation, and that after a polite reminder, a warning would be issued followed by a total ban, then yes, it could be introduced.

There are many forums out there that do not entertain anything other than the most basic of textspeak. A warning followed by a ban is usual.

Peace Out

Edit: i have really got to get some sleep. I am starting to ramble and become incoherent now.

Really? I didn't hear about that. A ban is going a bit too far, IMO.

because he typed in a stupid way in the boys locker room, and several people called him on it, plus its kinda obvious that a lot of people dont like bad grammar/english here. there are always people being told off for it by someone or other...

like i said, i think its discourteous to type in way which makes it hard for people to read, so if someones doing it, i tell them to stop

Personally, I'd love it if everyone typed perfectly or as close to perfect as possible.... But I know that's not going to happen and it shouldn't be up to me.
I'm fine with "u" and "ur" and stuff like that, but when you start mixing 1337 with regular typing and sticky caps and fake words and shit like that... Yeah. That's just too much.

I'm fine with textspeak like taking away a few letters to make the word shorter, taking the "g" off of "ing", raplacing "s" with "z", and some of the common things like "lyke", "Neways", "b4" and so on. But it makes it really hard to read when you just add in new letters to different words and capitalize random letters, which makes it all the more challenging.

What is hard about typing in regular english...see its easy

I went to school today vs. I went 2 skool 2day.

A alot of people on this forum have never met each other personally. So a lot of judgement (well not really judgement, but you know what I mean) comes from how you present yourself on a forum. And how you present yourself plays a role in how people precieve you. Whether you arguements will be taken seriously, etc. This includes the way you type. I am personally not usually the one to call out someone on their typing unless its horribly bad. But seeing that english is the main language spoken by most people here, it really shouldnt be that hard to formulate coherent sentences

Um. I didn't get some of the choices. But oh well. So I most likely voted for the wrong thing. x]

People just need to type accurately or at least to where it's actually readable. Whatever. I feel like I'm making words up now. wacko.gif

actually... its much easier just to type normally. give it a try, if only for the sake of common courtesey

It really is. I see some poeple typing "yOoh" as you. I mean, sometimes I type it as 'u' to be easier, but really, "yooh?" ew.

And I don't think we need PERFECT english with spellcheck and all of them. There has been a lot of topics on "TyPiiNg LyK DiiZ iZ RiidicUl0z" and stuffs. But I think some people should learn to type or else they're gonna type like that when they're older. I don't think they would get much respect if they do when they're older. They don't now.

WTF.

QUOTE
It appears that textspeak is regarded as only suitable for the kiddie pre-teens/dunces and that everybody else must conform by spelling correctly and posting using the correct syntax. otherwise to face flaming and have their actual post content ignored.

I find that offensive, kthnx. (: I'm very sensitive on how people treat me as my age. Really. They think I'm a freakin' moron. Especially where you put slash dunces.. k... stubborn.gif

but kkkk, I think people should type normally, with words. Capilization doesn't matter for me.. but just not typing in words that aren't words!

I assume that you read the complete thread in which case you should be able to understand that this is not my opinion. It is what has been made apparent to me by other posters in other threads that I posted on because of the way that I posted when I first came onto the forum.

Every Forum is different and it is apparent to me that I just happened to take interest in posting on threads which already displayed a very truncated textspeak style, which lead me to believe that this was generally acceptable on CB.

It is obvious now that posters are able to type in any style that they want as it is not Moderated, but they will have to expect to be flamed if that style is not deemed acceptable by other posters on a thread.

This is why I added a poll to this thread once I could see that it was generating some interest.

Goodness, there isn't a need for proper English in an online forum. Perhaps we should expect it, however, as James said before due to common courtesy. But  surely there isn't need to write correctly when the majority of the English speaking population have a hard time with it. If we were an educational institution, then I would see the light of your concern, but here, in an online forum, the concern seems overly solicitious. I would appreciate good grammar, but it needn't be made a big deal. People who aren't well-versed with the language will be ostracized.

Because stupid people write like that.  And if you are like me and make an inhuman amount of typos because ur fingers are slower than your brain, just go back and edit your post, for the sake of others.

I agree too. It should be more clearable to understand what they meant. I do hate those gangsta like words where they use "yew R sho aweshum!" Well I understand some, but bit annoying to read. Well I try my best on grammars. The only thing I'm bad is grammars. I messed up with past tense these days. It's just that I type so fast and don't think what I'm typing sometimes. That's why sometimes I go back and edit it if I did something wrong. But even if I checked it again, there are still errors. I can't make perfect grammars. I don't think anyone can except those English professors.

I would just like to say something.

Everyone in CB who talks ghetto just... stop. Please. It's so annoying. Especially if you don't live in the ghetto. I mean, soon, hillbillies will start talking ghetto! I live in the ghetto and look how I type! I talk like this, as well. North Philly, baby. Come join it. You'll see ghetto there. The people in the burbs talk more ghetto than the people in the ghetto because the suburbian "ANGSTAS!!!" try wayyyy too hard. I mean, I'm told that I have a Philly accent. But that's just how the words I say sound. Not that I'm saying "My homie G, dawg FO' SHIZZLE!!!!" mellow.gif

I think proper FULL English is the best.

You don't need to type in full English if you don't want to, but it will be your fault if people misunderstand you. TyPiN lYk DiS is too confusing, don't you think so?

I agree that there needs to be something done. Yeah, even I misspell words. I mean, I'm not the greatest speller. I think thats fine. I don't like sticky caps, or typing wierd.

And, how is it easier to type lyke than like? Same number of letters?? Anyway, I don't type like that. I type like this all the time, and what I typed that was "different" was harder than the rest. Maybe it's just because I dont use it as often.
