i didnt say that mine were. especially seeing as i didnt (at least blatantly) offer any.

but its not like a dictatorship. just because its not a democracy doesnt mean that its totalitarian. there are extremely few true democracies. there is also a middle ground between total control and anarchy, which it seems youre pushing for, because yes, a true democracy is anarchy

youre forgetting practicalities. we cannot hold a vote for every single thing. thats why a representitive democracy was created, and so many republics exist. we the mods are your representitives. we represent the people, yet sometimes make decisions that we feel are best for everyone on our own. to assume that everything you want will be granted is ignorant

Man. Fricking people. What crawled up your asses?
I'm gone for a few weeks and look what happens!

Just shut up and accept the decisions; nothing you can do about it.
What's done is done, so quit whining over it.
Life is unfair.

And no, I'm not back. A few of my cB friends have told me about this and I came to see what happened, and man, this place is going down the drain.

Later losers.

It's pathetic that some of you are still whining and will actually leave because of this. Grow up and get over yourselves.

QUOTE(MarchHare2UrAlice @ Apr 26 2005, 1:35 PM)
however, the way CB works is much more similar to politics than it is to an ordinary workplace.

the members are the ones who have to interact with the mods, so why should they not have a say in who those people are?
*

Hmm, I'm sorry to say this James, but cB's hiring is rather like any other work place. We're not talking about how mods and members interact, we're discussing how mods get hired. Two completely different ideas. If I get hired as a manager, I simply manage my department. Why would people need to vote for me to manage them? If that's how things run in the work force, then don't you think every employer should let other employees vote for potential employees? Sounds tedious. If I were an employer, I'd just hire people who I think qualify. Why do I need consent to hire? Wouldn't that defeats the purpose of my being "the boss"? I'm still confused. Maybe you can run this by me one more time? _smile.gif

QUOTE
I'm not for voting for mods. that's not effective. I am for members having a way to expess, through a poll or otherwise, who they thing should be mod, and this member imput should factor somewhat inot the decision for mods.

What about the Moderator Performance thread Mr. Acid? Is it not enough? I thought the thread was a good idea at first, but seeing how it gave way to this current chaos... maybe it wasn't such a good idea?

QUOTE
i know the whole each forum having a mod thing wasn't well recieved by mods. but we have yet to see if it's well recieved by the members. Sure, it affects mods, but shouldn't mods serve CB and members?

True. However, serving members shouldn't mean placating their every demand.

QUOTE
a suggestions thread is not enough. you cannot reply to a particular reply in a thread. there can only be one, or two , topics of discussion at a time in one thread. that's why i say a dedicated forum for suggestions.

Gotcha, you answered my first question. But that's something the Admins should consider.

Whatever happens, Mr. Acid, don't quit.

no, james, there is no point in tearing a community in pursuit of your rights if you could do so much more subtely, diplomatically, and effectively
it does no good to fight if everyone is going to leave thanks to the turmoil you created

history repeats itself. rome wasnt built in a day. france didnt reform its government in a day. russia only created more troubles for themself with their revolution.

we seem to be following in russia's footsteps

hi,
im here, sorry for not being involved as much as you would like me to (and i too). and im really happy to see all the contributions to this topic, it shows the level of commitment and involvement in your part, and for that, thank you.

many times ive stressed that the community is cb. without the community, there would not be cb. therefore the power ultimately is in the hands of the community, not me, or any of the staff members. we are here only to serve the community with the best of our abilities and with the best interest of the community in mind. note i use the term community, not individuals. to reiterate, we are here to serve the community and its best interest, not the individuals of the community and his or her best interest.

from what i understand, theres two things thats been raised, 1) a suggestion forum, and 2) voting for staff members.

1. this was mentioned in the past among the staff members. heres my take on this: i have no problem with this but my only concern here is that suggestions with strong community backings may not always be the with the community's best interest, but individuals collectively misrepresenting themselves as "the community", in which case, when turned down, "the community" will feel robbed of their right, causing resentment between those "with power" and those without. however, i do understand that the very principle of being able to voice your opinions and make an impact to the community is as important, if not more. with that in mind, ive created a poll to let the community decide.

2. a good example of what i mean by suggestions that might have a strong community backing but not benefitial to the community would be this. for reasons articulated very well by where we are, i do not see how something like this will be a better approach of selecting staff members than our current approach. for your information, the admins have a standard set of procedures for selecting the staff members. i will not claim the approach to be flawless, but i certainly do believe that it is definitely a better approach than a mere popularity contest, as something like this will inevitably become. for that reason, i dont see something like this ever taking place. and if you really have the community's best interest in mind and not your own, i find it hard that you would disagree. ive stressed to the staff members to have the best interest of the community in mind countless of times in all the things they do. likewise i ask you know to hold yourself to this same standard.

and i never got a pm from you MarchHare2UrAlice.

and i should point out that in the past two staff member selections, before undergoing the procedures to select the staff members, the admins considered what everyone had to say about the candidates in the complimentary topic made available in the lounge.

Yes. I agree 100%. Judging from the way many of you have reacted and choose to conduct yourselves proves that voting would be a terrible idea. I support our current process (although imperfect) over a popularity contest.

but do we really want to be france anymore than we do russia? remember robes-pierre? being a radical can lead to killing everyone, which equals causing many people to quit, if its taken too far

Popularity contests are never good. I guess we need to pick who is the most qualified for the job from what we can see. Cause I mean, when you go to a job interview, it's based on what the interviewer perceives as a good choice..sort of.

AH, forum politics. i'm learning about the conflict theory and political systems in sociology. anyway. everyone has been complaining about createblog changing, getting worse, etc., and the two things that members blame most for this fall are:

A) ignorance
B) lack of community

let's see how we can target these problems, shall we? by the way, "lack of community" isn't necessarily because of the lack of direct democracy because this is the way that CB has always been. i think it's because the forum has gotten so large that members don't feel as if CB is familiar territory anymore (too many people to know!).

and derrington will be dearly missed if he leaves. but hey, just in case you decide to stop posting.. join me in...

yea, france isn't good either. with the department of public safety and all...

i was hoping people wouldn't take the 'revolution' thing literally. i called it that because i always wanted to start a 'revolution', and because my signature had said 'i support the CB revolution' for a week or so now.

anyways, derrington will stay for now. once i hit junior year, i'll have to cut back on activity, but that's expected.

i didnt intend to, but i kept seeing more and more similarities. what can i say, im a complete history nerd. not to mention that im in a particularly vicious mood now, and should really go to the debate forum and let it out, but i cant be bothered to read through entire topics again to refresh. thats why i dont debate anymore, because theyre only fun in you start in the beginning and actually argue with someone

Have any of you considered to just take the admins' decisions and trust it? I mean, they ARE the admins. Suure, asking as to why mods were selected is A-OK! But don't you people know tact? You're not going to get an answer (you'll have a lesser chance of) if you you add-on a connotation of negativism and hate onto your request. And I see negativism everywhere.

1st thing to learn at school tomorrow: Tact.

Acid, your reasons to post a Revolution thread just so you can go out w/ a big bang should get you suspended. Luckily, I'm no mod here. You already applied w/ your views. We can all see that the admins have read your application, and they obviously chose to not agree with your opinion. Now you choose to deny rejection. All you do is instigate, instigate, instigate. You're essentially one of many catalysts to cB's potential decline. Basically, you are a hypocrite. No, too harsh, you're not a hypocrite. You just start massive trouble, 'tis all.

cB isn't going to die.
If someone leaves it's not going to shatter windows here.
No one is the center of cB except the creator of it. Remember that. Teens watch Real World on TV 'cuz it's entertaining, the moment MTV releases a Real World movie, it bombs. Why? It costs money! Now who's paying for the massive bandwidth needed for cB? When money is added into the equation, the balance tips quite predictably.

Gosh if you want to start trouble you should just leave. Trouble ain't gonna help recover cB to what it once was. =P Either stop looking at this place like it's a globe that needs some imperialism and start having some fun, or convert your time on cB for studying or reading a book. Duh.
