Some people do them to make people think that they did a REAL vexel, but you can tell the difference between a real vexel and a fake vexel.

I don't have the patience, nor the tools, to make a vector/vexel.... So I tend to run either the posterize filter or the cutout filter to achive a similar effect which I usually cover in other images aswell.... You can't exactly tell that I ran the filter in the first place. -shrug- If you do it correctly it'll look okay. But they are no comparison to actual vectors/vexels.... ^_^u Damn, that's long.

Yes, you do need illustrator to do a VECTOR, but you can make VEXELS in Photoshop. And yes, I think fake vectors/vexels are ugly.

I can't do either. Elements has no pen tool...
And I do realize it makes me look lazy, but I can't afford to spend 12+ hours on somthing like that, nor do I have the resources. Besides, the way I used it was to make one particular object stand out... I didn't actually want a vexel, just the look because it's so simplified.

It's hard to do with Elements, so therefore, I can't. I've tried by using the polygoon lasso tool, but it comes out with rough edges. Anyways, I can't tell the difference between Vectors & Vexels, but I can definetely tell the difference between fake ones. Fake ones looks bad if you can tell they're fake.

I don't like them. They make you look lazy and lower your credibility. If you're going to bother to make a vector at all, it better be real. You're just passing yours off as a "vector" when you really just used a filter or overlayed colors, while other people who make real vectors work hard on it.

Exactly. But when people know that they make them look bad, then why do they still do them?

Cause they're lazy and they want the recognition without working for it. It's like cheating in school or something.

Yes, I absolutely agree. And fake vexels/vectors look nothing like the real thing. They look pretty bad, actually. =\

So a vexel is made in Photoshop and a vector is in Image Ready. What about Paint Shop? Is the distinction having anything to do with a vector or a raster layer?

Maybe I'll get up the guts to try one, LOL

Adobe Photoshop and Jasc Paint Shop Pro = Vexel

Adobe Illustrator, not Image Ready = Vector
