Today was hell. My dog brought in a dead rat in my room as a present for me. I started freaking out.. my mom thought my dad was having a stroke so she burnt whatever she was cooking and the alarms started to go off.. then my dog started barking like crazy. I ran outside to throw the dead rat in the trashcan BUT when I came back to my room, there was ANOTHER ONE! I started freaking out again and my dad just got home so he put it in a plastic bag and threw it away. Then I started cleaning up my room to see where the rats where coming from and if there was any hiding in my REALLY messy room. Then I came back downstairs to report to my dad that there weren't anymore.. then he found out I didn't put the first rat in a plastic bag so he made me DIG IN THE TRASHCAN to put it in a plastic bag (i used gloves).

After all that was done, I went back to my room. I started vacuuming like crazy to make sure there weren't any dead rat pieces left in my room. I didn't have disenfecting stuff so I just sprayed a ton of febreeze where the dead rats were. My friend was gonna run over to my house to give me lysol but her parents wouldn't let her.. they probably thought I would inhale it or something.. so they told her to give me an air freshener instead. :| So anyway, now I'm hiding in the corner of my room farthest away from where the dead rats were. I'm scared there's still dead rat bacteria thriving in that small spot X( And now I'm trying to stay away from my dog :(

Sorry for the long post.. I just had to tell someone. Do you think febreeze will get rid of most of the dead rat germs? I know it takes away odor.. it has alcohol in the ingredients.. I dunno. I'm really paranoid. And has a pet ever done something like this to freak you out?

You suffer deadrattaphobia. huh.gif
There probably is no infections or germs left on the spot but just to make sure, clean it with some ordinary household cleaner then I'm pretty sure you'll be safe. If you want, just take a carpet and roll it over the spot to keep you from stepping on it.
And for your dog, just brush his teeth or something. happy.gif

oh I'm so sorry!! Thats really gross. I hate dead rats too. My great aunt sharon has a 5 bedroom huge house in the country, and shes lived there for like 20 years, and 20 years of stuff has piled up. There are some rooms you cant walk into cuz its so bad. So her kids go and help her clean, and I got forced to go one time, so I was sitting watching the tv, surrounded by stacks of newspaper litterally too tall for me to see over when I was sitting down, and they were baggin up the papers (some of them were newspapers from the 70's!!!) and they told me to help, so when I got down to the bottom of the first pile I found a dead rat. I was so freaked out. her whole house reeked of them. so then they were going thru the kitchen, where she had bags of groceries she never emptied out, and there were like canned good from like, 15 years ago, and in the bottom of that bag was another dead rat. that day within 10 hors of work we came across 7 dead rats. how disguting is that. And we were only cleaning out 2 rooms!! It was sooo nasty. I refuse to go there ever again. So yeah, I feel your pain.

That is so gross. sick.gif It happened to us before. There was one time that I saw a dead rat on our living room carpet, I suddenly freaked our because of the bad odor. I told my mom, who is a nurse and is very concerned on our house's cleanliness, about the dead rat lying on the carpet. The next time I saw her, she was taking out some house cleaners (such as vacume, antibacterial spray, anitmicrobacterial carpet cleaner and gloves) and even some hospital equipments (such as an ultraviolet fluorescent light, which was given to her by the hospital employees, and an isopropyl alcohol). She started by taking out the dead rat to the trash outside with her gloves on, then she sprayed some anitbacterial spray, after, she applied some antimicrobacterial carpet cleaner and started scrubing, then she started to vacume the carpet, damped the carpet with isopropyl alcohol, and finally, placed the ultraviolet fluorescent light on it for about thirty minutes to prevent bacterias from the dead rat to spread more. That takes a lot of work. I should've closed my big mouth. wacko.gif
