err..alternative punk?..i don't think that even is a genre. and if so, the killers is not alternative punk. they're like..technoish indie. but i guess they'd go in indie.

anyone know where ted leo and the pharmacists would go? me and kimmee don't know. we said it was undefined. mellow.gif

kimmee and i! kimmee and i! tongue.gif

alternative, perhaps?

yes that pisses me off too. clearly they are posers. i listen to emo but i don`t act punk.

QUESTION: someone told me that indie is the same as underground. is that true?

and another one. what would breaking benjamin be? one of my friends says its metal (i disagree) and the other says its alternative (im not sure about that either.)

^ i consider, like i said earlier, indie to be artists on independant labels or artists with that sound. independant labels are of course, more underground than the five main recording labels. so they're similar... but bands like bright eyes and taking back sunday are on indie labels, and they're both huge.

yeah, that's why i said "i personally think". but i always thought it was just an indie label sound. it's too much of a broad genre to give one sound too, especially since it's really diverse. i guess i could have defined "indie rock" instead...
*

i dont think indie is based primarily on rock .....there is such thing as indie rap , indie jazz....etc ......i believe indie means "independent" ....as in such ...independent from certain labels....there music doesnt categorize on there genre ......bands i would think of some are :Fiona Apple, Bjork, Ani DiFranco, Doria Roberts, Coldplay, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Phish, Dar Williams, The Flaming Lips, Jack Johnson, Indigo Girls, Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Dilated People, G Love, The Streets, Avenue Q

hey i listen to a lot of rock. but like i`m confuesd with the genres. like i mean i usually dont analyze it or anything. so can u guys help me out? like define some rock genres like alternative, (i know emo & punk lol), indie, grunge... etc. and name some bands that go with it.
*

Grinspoon= Heavy metal.
Iron Maiden= Heavy metal/Hard rock.
Kiss= Hard Rock.
Blink-182= Grunge.

There's more, but I can't think of it now.

i didn't say that... i said i guess i could have defined indie rock instead of indie since it's too broad to give one sound too (i thought that implied the subgenre thing... sorry if that was confusing). and yeah, i usually consider bands to be indie if they're on an independant label (as i've said i think three times in here), but the thing is some bands that are considered indie, such as the flaming lips, are on major labels... which is why i said "indie sounding bands". yeeeah.

What the heck? Blink 182 came after grunge. Therefore they are not grunge. Maybe they have some Nirvana influences in them but WHERE WOULD YOU GET THAT THEY ARE GRUNGE?
