Something like family problems or something, etc. etc.... Then again, I don't know your bf. You should ask him, and if you know he's not alright yet he says everything is fine or not to worry about it then comfort him. He may not always want to talk about it...As long as you hold his hand or give him a hug, comforting actions that reassure you that you're there for him will make him feel better. Just tell him you're there for him and he can talk to you about anything.

u should find the problem out. u said he's happy when he's with u, that means it's absolutely not becoz of u. maybe he had some sad events with his classmates so when he goes to school everyday, he seems so sad. maybe stress is also a problem.
but the most important thing is talk with him, ask him. or ask his fds if they discover or not.
i dun think having sex with him to make him feel happier is a good idea.
