According to news, the Pontiff is still alive. However, the Pontiff is still clinging to life as his health worsens. It now seems very likely that there will be a Papal Election in 2005, since many people think that he will die this year. Whether he's dead or alive it doesn't matter, it is only a physical death, he remains among us spiritually.

i think it is quite devastating because the pope is really a good man and when you look back see the things he has done you'd probably feel sad as well.
he hasnt died (when you read this it may already be too late) but is "grave" condition as reported by the vatican.
