her husband wants it.
i'd assume her parents don't. she has no brain. the tissue died, and was filled with cerbro-spinal fluid. the autopsy is to show the country just how dead her brain was. anyhow; her husband is the guardian. he gets to choose. |

Wow. She died today.
I think it was right to pull the feeding tube from her, though. C'mon, I'd rather die in peace than send the next years of my life suffering. Wow, I just realized I'm a suppoter of Euthenasia. |

Even though Terri Schiavo died today, the debate should continue for her justice's sake. Anyway, I think it wasn't right to take the feeding tube away from her. The temptation toward euthanasia appears as one of the most alarming symptoms of the culture of death, the secular mentality which has no respect of life, especially when it is weak.

....what don't people get when the doctors say parts of her brain is literally mush?
She did not die cruelly, it was the only legal way for her to go. I watched South Park do a rendition of the Shiavo case, and they did it beautifully. I remember something particularly well: People play God when they take out her feeding tube. But aren't we playing God when we put in the feeding tube? Terry would have died naturally, as in in her vegetative state, she could not survive by herself. She was kept alive by the will of people and the inventions of people. She was to die naturally, without machine, but WE PLAYED GOD by keeping her alive for 15 years! If you believe in souls, her soul was stuck in there for 15 years! Of course religion can say "OH! But God's plan wanted us to put the tube in!" Then if one uses that mentality, I'll say it was God's plan for us to take out the tube afterwards. Who gave us the right to interpret God's plan? If God wants a tsunami to kill thousands, he sure as hell isn't thinking in human mentality (ex: save everyone! no death!) God's plan is strange shit. Either way Terry was to die naturally, and we idolisized ourselves and played God with her soul. Shame on us. To have created a literal purgatory for her for more than a decade. Shame. On. Us. |

Yes, quite a few actually.
Firstly, I think that they should have reinserted her feeding tube while her case was being tried and whatnot. But I do understand why the courts felt that they shouldn't interfere. Also I don't think that it was fair to keep her in that vegetative state for 15 years, 15 years of wasted expenses. I am glad that she died peacefully but this whole issue was handled very messily. |

out of all things why didnt the husband do it only now. i mean like if he had custody over her why only now out of the 15 years. i mean i wouldnt just let my spouse sit in a bed for 15 years and suddenly he gets exposure and he tries to take action??? i think he should of done something years before i mean someone doesnt get out of coma after that many years.

DaTru KataLYST..that's SO cool..I totally agree.
I mean..in a sense..she's already DEAD..you see? Can you imagine how frustrating it must be to know what's going on around you and not communicate? Do you know how frustrating it is for a PARENT..to see their child go through that pain? That's why I couldn't understand Terry's parents..I mean, who would want their child to live..when their soul is already gone? |

If you did your homework, the husband DID try! He tried multiple times! He's tried 3 times all in all. The first two the tube went out and went back in. It was not until this 3rd and final time all courts agreed with letting her RIP. good god, she was not in a coma. When you're in a coma, you're in a semi-permanent deep sleep (as in you just don't wake up). When your brain cells die out, your brain-dead. In Terri's case, her brain was literally turned to mush after being brain-dead for 15 years. She had the infinitely minutest probability of even mumbling a coherent word. |

QUOTE(ItzOnlySydney @ Mar 31 2005, 9:28 PM) cruely? ha, she has been practically dead already for the past 15 years. I dont know why they put her on the feeding tube for so long anyway, just wasting the money, thoese lucky doctors. So her family got to see her blink acouple of times. Big whoop. I dont know why everyone is getting so excited about some girl on a feeding tube dying. |

QUOTE(Individualityy @ Apr 1 2005, 2:35 PM) ...are you referring to Terry? She's in a vegetative state. She's not aware of anything that's going on around her. She probably isn't aware of the fact that she's alive. She's a vegetable. ||edit|| was. |

yea i know we should blame the parents also but if he had custody he would of had his way if he fought hard enough the first couple of times. i mean like if it is 10 years passing.

umm is lettin your wife starve to death letting her die in peace? definitely not. how would you not like to have no water for 11 days. your skin gets all screwed up, your practically freezing because your bodys trying to keep your vital organs alive so it disregards your hands and feet. i really dont think a "peaceful death" requires a morphine drip.
