I know that there are probably other threads about this (and other subjects which I wish to debate), but the search showed me that alot of those threads are dead, and you can't search for 3 letter words like 'god'.

So in my newbie nature, I ask this:
Is there meaning to life, or are we created from luck. Are we mortal creatures striving for order in a universe of disarray, or are we in a comfortable engineered niche.

Please don't post about how I should use the search button (which I did), and just reply about your thoughts about this :).

Oh, and sorry if I this topic is not allowed (the god thread was locked it looks like).

Not sure what you're trying to ask.

Are you asking what is the purpose of life or are you asking why do we exist?

If the former is what you're asking, there is an existing thread.

Sorry if you don't like people telling you to use the search button, but it is a rule at cB.

^^

yeah but to be fair, it is hard whe nthe word has three letter, like 'god'. which is a crucial part of a tpic, its happened to me before...

i dont think theres much purpose, no. to give someone a defined purpose hampers their aility to think for themselves and to betruly happy

To be fair, if I can find it, anyone else should be able to do the same. _smile.gif I understand that three letter word deal though. There as been times when I couldn't search properly either mad.gif.

I believe that sitting and pondering hinders what you can actually do for yourself now. Spending your life/time looking for something that is just a belief is quite absurd, especially when there are things you could be doing for other people or yourself.

That is all?

So, I suggest you don't think about life too hard, and just find a way to make it better, like working on a project or hanging out with friends. Make yourself happy, and not sad because you cannot find the answer to life itself.

Yeah .. it's kinda useless thinking about the meaning of life if you're not religious, like a Christian. If you're not, the point of life is just to ^as quoted, "have fun and live life".

I think this is a very interesting question which makes you ponder...but don't all debate questions whistling.gif

But I think there is a meaning to life, and that we're not all created just by luck, over the past centuries lot os people have added to the universe to make it what it is today, ofcourse that doesn't mean it's good (understatement of the year) but the fact that alot of individuals have helped in the evolving of the universe is proof. Like a person said earlier, there is a point of life, in the sense that individually each person has a meaning. It's what they choose to do with their life; whether its meaningful or useless, it really depends on the individual person.

what this person is asking (although he/she was very ambiguous about it) is:

are we created for specific purposes?
i.e. Christians would argue that they were created to praise the Lord and spread His word.

er.. i think that's what you're asking? please be a little more straight-forward next time and target a specific question that you have.

i think that society and individuals assign "social roles" to each person throughout the course of his or her life. meaning is created through the gradual development of one's life. experience, relationships, etc. all piece together to form one's "role" or "meaning" in life.

Evolution has nothing to do with the creation of the universe. What did create the universe? I doubt it was evolution.

Was the universe created be a god?

If you belief that the universe was created by random chance, it could be very well that you believe in evolution (but thats not that question here).

The creation of the universe is a much greater question, one that cannot be answered but be debated.

In order for the universe to be created for us, it must be created. That means you must believe in Creation. And if one argues that it is created for us, I would ask why, then, do natural disasters occur as they have the power to destroy human lives. More simply put: why be created for us, yet has the power to devastate us? (One of the many questions I have.)

In order for the universe to come about existing and we, by chance or chemical reactions... whatnot, inhabits it, there's a good chance that we're talking about evolution. If our existence revolves around the universe, that would put much emphasize on the question of why. Perhaps, it can go as far as questioning God's existence and His plan.

It would make sense to say that this topic has more to do with creation and evolution than you realize.

Scratch the part of my question which says: "Is there meaning to life, or are we created from luck"

That I can see has to do with evolution and creationism :)

The reason for our lives:

Money.

Seriously. We go to school which educates us.. for what? So we're able to work. Why do you go to college? Majority will say they want a better paid job. We work most of our lives for money and most people will have a pension insurance so when they retire they have money to look after them.

Damn money.

Okay, as far as money goes: I think money drives some people's lives and it's awful. How can you wake up to live for something so materialistic? All money does is create controversy: rich & poor, popular & not popular, etc. And, either way, money isn't HOW the Earth was created, if anything it's simply what drives existance, or so I take what you were saying.

i think i answered this type of question in another forum...can't..remember.
anyway...im going to take "meaning to life" as "purpose of life".

the purpose of life is to find a purpose, of course!

...that idea was from a psychologist. i can't remember his name...

i can't remember a lot of things. huh.gif
