QUOTE(Spud @ Feb 6 2005, 10:00 AM) In the beginning of time, God created Adam. If you read the bible, it says Adam was made in God's image: Genesis 2:7 "The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into is nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." For that very reason, is why people refer to God as a man. yes, plus Genesis 1:27 "God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him..." |

you should clarify that by "He" and "God" you mean a God from a certain religion because there are some religions with male and female Gods.

QUOTE(Mar 28 2005 @ 5:39 PM) God is the ultimate holy spirit. No gender. He created the first human male in his image, meaning "Dominant". He wanted males to be the leader of the "unit family". To all the women soon to bash me, I just want to say that I look forward to our first female president and my mom is head of the household. Anyways. Like the Father is "usually" the leader of the household. Thats why you always hear: Oh God our "Father" in Heaven. Then again, Christianity has a history of misogyny. |

I think it makes sense...although it doesn't really offend me. Personally I don't think of God as a he/she/black/white/tall/short. I still refer to He though..I dunno. I think of "Him" as more of a spirit..rather then a human form.

We're bot debating the sex of Christ, but rather the Father of Christ, God. Before anyone tells me "but they're one being!!!", yes, yes, I know, don't lecture me on something I already know... however, as many have pointed out, God is more Spirit than anything. How would anyone know the sex of a Spirit... beats me. |

i don't think god has a gender. but then again, he did make jesus a man. why? probably he knew that if he were to be a woman, no one would take her seriously. women at that time were just... well, *there*. or maybe god himself sees men stronger than women. women are motherly, but that doesn't mean they're not strong.
yea, women are trying to change things today. we can do things men can. but on the other hand, sometimes it's good to be different. men can be strong, while woman can be motherly. men can be nurturing, and women can be strong, but women and men are best at different things. BUT, strong nowadays is seen as muscles and stuff, but what counts more is the strenght inside. OK, i'm gonna shut up now. i'm babbling and going way off topic. ![]() |

QUOTE(M1SSxCHR1SSY @ Mar 22 2005, 4:31 AM) Uh that holds no logic. Especially if you knew about the Christian faith. First off, God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are one; a trinity. And God is not the one who impregnated Mary, Joseph did. Therefore with your so called logic you would be able to say that Joseph was a man but not that God was a man. In the first book of the bible (Genesis) you can infer that God is a man because it says he created Adam out of his own image and only created a woman (Eve) because Adam needed a companion and that Eve was created from Adam. Despite these inferences, no one really can say whether God is a man or a woman for sure but I think it's completely ludicrous to want to change the bible to say "he/she". It's been he forever and most scholars would probably have to say that yes, God is a man, so what's the point? Who cares if it's more politically correct or if some feminists are getting offended? That's just like saying let's change all the pictures of Jesus because it shows him as a white man and all the Asians are getting angry about it. Or something like that. Anyway, I also think I remember learning that God really isn't a specific gender or race but I have no real evidence to back that up, but I just wanted to say it. i agree for what you wrote, but joseph did not impregnate mary. joseph wasn't jesus's father. mary was made pregnant by god's power. yea, i think the bible shouldn't be updated either. even if i think god has no gender. i mean, we don't want to call god IT, either. |

First, you have to know that God is a spiritual being. so you can't decide whether he is male or female based on the reproductive system. but the bible (god's word) uses the pronoun reference to god as "him," "he," and "his." Also, Jesus said that God was his father, not his mother. Jesus's mother did not have intercourse with joseph. Joseph only played the role of a father for jesus while he was on earth. god sent the Holy spirit to plant jesus into mary. if Joseph did have intercourse with mary, which is considered sinful, that act would contradict god's commandments.
People who believe that the bible should include "he/she" or "him/her" do not pay attention to what is really important. and if they want those pronoun references to be applied to god, then they simply do not even know who god is. "of what one cannot speak, of that one must keep silent." -Ludwig wittgenstein. Basically, if you don't know much about an issue, please do not argue about it. |

QUOTE(Frankie @ Feb 4 2005, 6:35 PM) in speech class today, we learned about people getting offended when someone would say something like "POLICE MAN OR FIREMAN OR BUSBOY, etc. and one other thing she mentioned was god. apparently, women were getting upset because the bible called god a man. so they are now changing some bibles to make the word "HE" (referring to god) to "HE/SHE". what do you think about that? ![]() yea, that bugged me too.I went to a Catholic school for 9 years and I was taught religon class on a daily basis. All my life I've heard god be referred to as a he and it kinda pissed me off.I mean, making god a sex, age,or ethnicity is kinda saying,'well this age/sex/ethnicity is superior'.And whenever I asked about it,they were like "well, god really is both",but then if that's true why is god constantley being referred to as "Father","He",ect.,That's one of the reasons why I converted to Buddhism.Cuz in Buddhism,it's like a personal god.I mean,it doesn't have a race or a gender or an age.It doesn't even have a name. It's kinda left up to you. I'm not really sure if they should be altering the Bible though. It's a peace of literary artwork and altering it would be disrespectful. That oes for any artwork. And it's soooo old,so it's like wrong to change it now. |

I dont really care..
But I do find it odd how a lot of people just ASSUME he's a man.. I mean.. Im very much against people who think Men are better.. or all powerful.. so yeah.. and IF God was real, I think I'd invision him more as a spirit with no form, like have you seen that episode of Futurama where Bender gets thrown into space and finds God or whatever and all he is is blinking lights and swirls of stuff.. I find it funny now how I've turned this seriouse board to Futurama, LOL |

I'd rather have God be considered a man. When people think of God, they dont necessarily think of a woman. But I do not care about what they change it to because I do not believe in God.
