marriage is about love, and respect for each other, and wanting to grow old with each other. why bring gender into it? love knows no gender, race, or religion. you cant make gay marriage illegal, and expect two men or two women to stop loving each other.

Okay. o.o' So, I've read about half of this discussion..and decided I'd just stop and make my point. If someone else made it, sorry.
This is a very..interesting topic for me. Firstly, I'm bi. So..this deals with a personal aspect of my life. Secondly, I'm not Christian..but I do agree with most of their beliefs. As many people have said before, it should be about who you love. Yes, someone made a point about insest..and I do understand that, but this 'isnt' insest, now is it? What is it that defines a man and a woman? A few body parts that are different. It isnt breaking some huge rule to let them marry, but merely letting them enjoy their lives with the same rights that straight people have. The point about adopting children that will be forced to grow up in a situation that 'isnt normal'..Is sort of sad. I mean, look back at when it was appauling to see a black and white couple. If they had kids..wouldnt 'their' kids have to have grown up in a situation that's against what most people consider right? And..How many of them would complain about it? Mostly they'd grow up to understand and support the idea of no race boundries in marraige. Thusly..a child brought up in a same sex household will merely have to go through the same issues that those children did. Sure, maybe it's not fair to them because they dont get a 'normal' home life..but what gives a person the right to state what is and what isnt normal in the first place. Normal is merely what we're used to..not what's neccisarily right. If this becomes legalized (which it is in my area of Canada) it is just a step towards a future that 'lets' it be accepted. Most people who fall in love with the same sex, do not do it by choice..but by their heart and soul. Is it not wrong to say to them that they cannot express their love for that person the same way someone can if it's of the opposite sex? Edit: QUOTE(ohh_so_elektrikk<3 @ Mar 25 2005, 4:57 PM) marriage is about love, and respect for each other, and wanting to grow old with each other. why bring gender into it? love knows no gender, race, or religion. you cant make gay marriage illegal, and expect two men or two women to stop loving each other. Okay, I didnt see this post when I posted. o.o' But that's exactly true. |

People are entitled to do whatever they want. They can marry whomever they want. As long as it doesn't relate to me..I'm fine with it, in other words, it doesn't concern me.

Mindy, BOLD what you said and put that in your signature. I've been repeating that since the other 2-3 homosexual marriages since the debate forum was created. Obviously, the message that laws affect society--every individual, is still unclear. I gotcha, kisstharingz. Thanks for clearing that up. |

But doesnt it effect society to 'not' allow gay marriage? There's certainly a growing percentage of openly gay people now..So, does it not effect them that they cannot get married?

man & a woman ONLY.
i have nothing against homosexuality. Just it's always been and man and a woman. We shouldn't change it for the people who choose to be different. |

Take it from someone who 'is' bi...You dont 'chose' to be different. You just are. If you force yourself to go about life like everyone else..would you not be lying to yourself? And therefor..not enjoying your life to the fullest?

i thought that we weren't going to use the whole "choice vs. inherent" argument anymore, since there is no clear scientific evidence.

I agree. I'm just trying to say a person doesn't just wake up one morning and say "Hey. You know what? I think I'm gonna become gay today!" Lol.

If there are those who tolerate the support of homosexual marriages, wouldn't it make sense to have them tolerate not supporting as well? In other words, tolerance for the intolerant.
I mean, what is the point of one-sided tolerance? |

ahh... i see...
yes, tolerance of the intolerant... it kinda kills tolerance, right? in the same way that nonconformist is an oxymoron, tolerantist would be too... however; i suppose that civil unions could be given, and people could be intolerant of them as much as they want... |

haha. true. but it could also be said that things can remain the same and people could be intolerant of the banning just as well. a bad thing to the bone, but works both ways. again... how strange. what's the point of all this then, i wonder.

lol i just read the last 10 posts and it was confuzing but for example i know it may seem childish, i just wanna understand were you guys are coming from this whole tolerant and intolerant thing.
EX. Like how mostly bush got the most of the votes and kerry lost and that percentage of the kerry votes have to tolerate bush? is that what you mean. QUOTE(gogopwrrnger @ Mar 26 2005, 3:45 PM) man & a woman ONLY. i have nothing against homosexuality. Just it's always been and man and a woman. We shouldn't change it for the people who choose to be different. i doubt that everything is always gunna be the same. if everything was in its original state then many of us wouldnt be living here in america it would be the native americans who were living here. we cant just block this situation what if 75 percent of the world became gay or bisexual what would you do then? |

well, say i was a gay person. you're all different than me. should i not want you to have rights, be near me, do anything that concerns me just because you're different?
that would be defined as discrimination, my friend. |

I think people need to compromise. The conservative fundamentalists of the world are overreacting to gay marriage and gay marriage supporters are pushing to hard for it to be called "marriage." Why can gays not have civil unions that have all of the legal aspects that marriage does? That way, you don't offend the church-y people who say marriage is a religious tradition, which it is, and gays can call their civil union a marriage if they want, just not legally. Plus, why should the union of two people be denied to those who want it most? Because they want it so badly, they are more likely to take it seriously and respect the institution. If people have a problem with homosexual marriage they should take a look at straight marriages because nearly 40% of those marriages fail (at least in the U.S.) Why can't we all just get along? (That is rhetorical.)
