I live in Canada and we don't have 4.0's or whatever they are...we have marks in percents, and our overall average is calculated by adding all of our marks togather and dividing them....so I had 92, 92, 93, 94, with an average of 92.8....
what do you guys do to find your marks in the USA...I don't understand your system and I'm just curious...what does 4.0 mean? blink.gif

4.0 means straight A's. I think 90 is about an A- in percents, right? So you probably have a 4.0, but then I don't know...

for each class you get a number based on your average

4= 90-100
3= 80-89
2= 70-79
1= 66-69
0= 0-65

average together all the classes to get GPA.

it varies with the school. for my school, the scale includes 0.5's:

4.0 = 94-100 (A)
3.5 = 90-93 (B+)
3.0 = 84-89 (B)
2.5 = 80-83 (C+)
2.0 = 74-79 (-C)
1.5 = 70-73 (D+)
1.0 = 64-69 (D)
0.0 = < 64

Hmm, I was wondering the same thing because my school doesn't use the 4.0 scale system either- it uses percentages out of 100.

we have percentages and the grade point average and i live in canada too, british columbia.
A 86-100 (4.0)
B+ 81-85 (3.5)
B 73-80 (3.0)
C+ 76-72 (2.5)
C 60-66 (2.0)
C- 50-59 (1.0)

but you can get more specific gpas than that, but thats the scale at my school.

At my school, the GPA system is like this:

4.0 = A (93-100)
3.7 = A- (90-92)
3.3 = B+ (88-89)
3.0 = B (83-87)
2.7 = B- (80-82)
2.3 = C+ (78-79)
2.0 = C (73-77)
1.7 = C- (70-72)
1.3 = D+ (68-69)
1.0 = D (63-67)
0.3 = D- (60-62)
0.0 = F (< 60)

Ooo, those are generous...

I have AP and IB classes at my high school (Texas). They're 5.0. Honors, Pre-AP, and Pre-IB are all 4.5, and all regular classes and most electives are 4.0.

So, we have three scales because the different levels of classes have different maxs.

Getting the max is HARD:

4.0/4.5/5.0: 97-100 (A+)
3.8/4.3/4.8: 93-96 (A)
3.6/4.1/4.6: 90-92 (A-)
3.4/3.9/4.4: 87-89 (B+)
3.2/3.7/4.2: 83-86 (B)
3.0/3.5/4.0: 80-82 (B-)

and so on...continues that pattern.

I'm taking mostly 4.5 classes since I'm a sophomore...next year, I'll be taking all 5.0 courses.
I dunno how they compare people taking 5.0 classes with people taking 4.0....*shrug*

Not particularly...I mean, even my brother got into a pretty good university. But in Vancouver, generally the universities accept students by looking at the average percentages and our Provincial exams, which is either worth 40 or 60 percent of the term. I can't remember right now. So really, the GPA doesn't matter much. But I'm not really familiar with the American system...

i have six classes, and we have A's, B's, C's, D's, and F's
an "A" = 4 points, a B is three, C is two, and under is either a one/zero.
you averge up all the numbers.
so if you have straight A's...you have a 4.0
yeah, i have a 3.7. grrr, so close.
