In Social Studies last month (last month I know..haha) my teacher was talking about segregation and it got me thinking:
Segregation is everwhere. At school, in public, at the movies, etc. If you think about it, you can come up with a lot of places where segregation occurs. At school, for instance, segregation takes place when someone says or acts against a younger student or grade level...'Those stupid 6th graders.' ..'Gosh..freshmans are so stupid and immature'..'Why are you talking to a nerd?' Stuff like that..take a moment and think about it. Think about your school, work, your environment. Basically, all I'm saying is, segregation is everywhere. Sure, some people segregate themselves from others, etc. but they do it without realizing it. If someone says anything rude to you due to your position in school, or anything-anyplace, don't let it put you down. Segregation occurs intentionally sometimes. People only put you down on certain things because of your position because that's how they were raised or that's what they've been taught. Don't judge them and say they're ignorant or anything. Segregation can be used in various ways, just not in rude ways you know.

Er..yeah..I got that from one of my friends. I wasn't sure if it made any sense so I decided to post it and ask you guys if it did. Also..it should've been more about segregation at school..like how people talk badly about younger students and grade levels and yada yada but it's somewhat related to it..if you pay attention to it..I guess..I don't know...lol..I just saw it more as everyday life but oh well. So does it make sense? Heheh...thanks!

You're right, people do segregate themselves from eachother without noticing. Interesting thing to think about.

But, the reason they use the term segregation in history is because the past has had many serious segregation problems that have harmed people. Not hanging out with a freshman or 6th grader isn't the same thing as whipping someone or treating them wrong because they arent like you.

Oo your right..but this was more for nowadays..you know? But I totally get what your saying. I remember that my teacher was comparing the past to the present about segregation too. It made me think an awful lot about it too.

Aw, that's horrible. I didn't think that stuff still happens often. There isn't racial hate in my school.

Yeah, there's segregation. Isn't it obvious?

No matter how hard we try to prevent discrimination of any kind, it will still continue as long as humans are different from each other.

Segregation goes far beyond race. High school is the perfect example of segregation and the alienation of social groups for whatever reason. Just think about the common stereotypes; jock, goth, emo, prep, thug, etc. Hell, it's even here in this forum because people feel the urge to classify others. I, honestly, don't see the point, and maybe its because I've gotten the short end of the stick in many situations, but the more any time of segregation occurs, the more we digress as a society.

P.S., muthas... My 2 cents are better than 50! (The Massacre was a waste of production)

In South Texas, I've seen so many Confederate Flags at my school alone that these bastuds really believe the south won.

There isn't any true line of segregation at our school, however, it's a mostly hispanic school in the middle of suburban San Antonio (The Boonies) with a southern confederate (and rather racist) influence.

yeah people do segregation and they dont even realize it... i know that few seniors always messes with the freshman saying this and that, that freshman are little babies...they still need to grow up that they dont know anything at all like they are senior slaves. but i dont think it happened to MY school, the school i'm attending.. but it happened when i was visiting my friend's school hehe.

^ but it's true. i learned that in my ap us history class.

we don't have racial segregation in our school. well, there is a predominantly "white" group, but everyone's still friends. like there are friend groups but it's not like they don't socialize with people outside their own groups.

one of my teachers used to do that last year, but with a different class. my friend was saying how she put all the white kids in front, asians in the back, and everyone else in the middle. it's rediculous. but sometimes, people choose to segregate themselves cause they want to.

we definitely do not have racial segregation at our school because it's one of the most diverse. but yes, there are people making those comments like stupid freshman, sorry to admit I was one of them as well.

i don't have racial, but may be social status and grade or something, but its not big ting. Well at least at my school with the people i know. I talk to seniors and even went out with a few and i'm a freshie. I've went out with other grade too, but I do understand what you mean. Somethings the "popular" people may be treated better

Wow. I second that! lol..

Yeah..at my school people have their own cliques and I just wanted to know..when some of you say that it's mostly on white people..do you mean like..a certain type of race can wear these kind of clothes and so can that one but the white people can't? Like that? Cuz that's what I'm thinking..or would that be considered prejudice instead of segregation? Like..oh..he dances like a white boy. Gah..it's so confusing!
