QUOTE(Ballpointpencil @ Mar 19 2005, 5:53 PM)
It is not a branch of Christianity. The leaders did not even want it considered that until more recent years. Look into their beliefs. They are radically different from the beliefs of any other Christian branch. They are not Christians. Something I find funny, though a tad off-topic, Mormon Air Force chaplains are the only ones who don't have to have a seminary degree.
*

The point that I'm trying to get at here is, so what if Mormons aren't Christians? So what if Mormons don't branch from Christianity? Does that make them a cult? The reason that they are not Christians isn't enough to say their beliefs are evil.

Cult- A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.

I never said their beliefs were ""evil". I never said a cult was "evil" either. I don't believe in cults, but that doesn't make them (or the people in them) evil. Just like I don't believe in Islam, but I don't consider Muslims evil. Four of my closest friends are Mormon, one reason why I took up studying their religion as a hobby. I just do not want people to continually pair Mormonism with Christianity, as they are completely separate. Different beliefs, different ways of evangelizing even.

that would ROCK.

derrington, virtually every religion believes that its worship is the only true worship in the world. otherwise, it would hardly be a religion.

^2 Excuse my choice of bad words.

If "[you] do not want people to continually pair Mormonism with Christianity, as they are completely separate," then that makes Mormonism extremist and false?

So basically, anything that is separate from Christian beliefs is extremist and false, that's what you're telling me.

She hates Christians because they try and enforce their religion on others and because most of them are hypocrites, not because of their Christian beliefs.

i agree. there are a few that actually show their christianity through their actions and words, but for the most part (around my school/town at least) a lot of them are extremely hyprocritical.

Hahahahahahha... thats great. Yup, wannabe-hypocritical christians, ignorant bastards with grandiose illusions of a "higher power" and a little contradictory story book that they read and follow to tell them how to live. Funny stuff, especially when most of them don't even follow half the bible.

That's what I thought Ballpointpencil said, as well.

Different people have different opinions. But who are you to say that Mormonism is generally considered false? Even if you "read the books," remember that there will still be many people saying that it isn't false, that it isn't a cult. What I think is so naive of people is that just because there are different religions branching off of others or new religions forming, people think it's just some cult.

And anyway, back to the topic. I don't know anyone that has ever tried to push his/her beliefs on me. There is a majority of Catholics rather than Christians, where I live. I adimt that I don't know the difference between Catholicism and Christianity, but the people I know who are Christian, tend to follow the beliefs. But they don't go around gloating about how much they love Jesus. They know deep down that they love and believe in Jesus and God. But let me remind you that there aren't that many Christians that I know of, where I live, so what I'm saying is only based on less than 10 people who are Christian.

EDIT: ... Jeff, don't be so offtopic. tongue.gif

QUOTE(Ballpointpencil @ Mar 19 2005, 6:41 PM)
Imagine something with me for a moment. Imagine that you were blind your entire life. Let's say you went to a certain doctor, and he administered a brand new drug giving you sight.  Can you imagine what it would be like to suddenly be able to see? Can you imagine taking in all the shapes and colors for the first time? Suddenly, everything would take on a new meaning.
Imagine that that happened to you. Would you be quiet about it, and never tell anyone? Or would you go to your old friends, others who were blind like you once were, and hope that they would also go take this miracle drug to gain vision also?
That is why Christians aren't quiet about their faith.
*

yeah but being blind and then being able to see is totally different than being a drug attict, and then recovering( it's a good thing to be recovered, dont get me wrong), but you dont need to tell the whole world every detail of everything that you did when you were high and having sex for drugs, then finding god. and then telling everyone how they live their life is wrong.

one of the major premises of christianity is evangelicism. you guys criticize christians for being hypocrites, but then bash them for working to spread their religion. it's illogical

that's right, i was about to say something like that.

um, please don't think all christians are like that, because some of us aren't.
I may have a strong faith, and a lot of people say so, but I have never forced Christiany onto another person. I may have told my best friend about it, and when she seemed uncomfortable around me, I stopped. That's why she respects me for that. stubborn.gif

I think most "Christians" say that they're good Christians and don't follow the book because their religion was forced on to them. Doesn't matter by who.

I agree with Anna 100%. A lot are hypocrites.
By the way..Anna is leaving..CB? Or has her DSL been cut finally?
