Christian Humanist and proud of it.

"Humanism, an educational and philosophical outlook that emphasizes the personal worth of the individual and the central importance of human values as opposed to religious belief, developed in Europe during the Renaissance, influenced by the study of ancient Greek and Latin literature and philosophy. Humanism thus began as an educational program called the humanities, which inculcated those ancient secular values which were consistent with Christian teachings. The Renaissance humanists were often devout Christians, but they promoted secular values and a love of pagan antiquity"

1) Choose to identify themselves as Christians after some thought on the subject (ie, not simply as an inherited label or nominal religious classification)

2) Find themselves largely in agreement with the positive aspirations of modern humanism as expressed in such writings as the Humanist Manifesto III

3)May or may not believe in a transcendent realm or an immortal component of human existance (soul), or may remain agnostic on the matter, but do believe that good conduct in this life is of greater importance than such belief.

Personally, I believe that you can learn from the teachings of the bible. There isn't much that I take in word for word (except for the ark, I'll go to Arrarat myself, even if it means strapping up an AK).

I believe in Hell and I also have a complex belief of Heaven.

I chose not to 'leave it up to God' by taking the initiative to put it all in my own hands.

And, I've said this in another thread, doing things for the sole purpose of salvation is pure selfishness and selfishness shouldn't warrant salvation.

um calling it "popular" isn't what it should be called, no one should go to one faith because of popularity but because they believe in its various beliefs and concepts
