since you've read the book, can't you figure that out yourself through analysis? it seems like a pretty significant part of the novel's plot and character development.. although i've never read catcher in the rye (sad, yes.)

Oh I did the same thing earlier! You really should read it again if you didn't catch it, but he was a failure (in his mind) because he wanted to be the Catcher in the Rye and stop the children from growing and losing their innoence. He didn't want them to be old and become "phony" so he failed at that. There are examples and if you need then just tell me =].

That was a great book. Its so simple. He flunked school. Thats not so hard to see is it? Its in the beginning of the book and stretches to the end. You didn't read it did you?

That was a good book. lol i read it for fun, how much of a dork am i?? I never saw him as a failure. He was confused yeah, but he never was a failure. The whole book he is basically running away, but at the end he stays because of his sister. You could say he was a failure because he got outta school, but i think that is stupid. It's not about what he did, it was about his character. He thought he was a failure more then anyone else did in the book. He couldn't help his family or sister, he couldn't help that girl he liked, so he saw himself as a failure. but he wasn't, he just was confused and it wasn't even his job in the first place to fix everything. He was a very smart kid, really knew what he was talking about..he just had a difficult life. lol, ah i can't really explain, i read the book too long ago, you should go read the book for your assignment lol

"He flunked school" ?? that's not a good reason to explain why he was a failure. and that part you quoted from lAzN YiN YanGl is in the book. although i'm not sure if that's really the answer, but it's probably is because he always wanted protect all the innocent things and people. There were many innocent "things/people" mentioned in the book, like the ducks from the lagoon in Central Park, Phoebe, Allie, all the children, etc. And he hated how all the adults were phonies so he (my teacher said) "alienated or isolated himself from the adult world." so yea.. read the book. it's a good book, you'll get it. |
