i never seen anyone get below a three in marching as well, my band has gott a feww 2 during marching, but we are improving. PLus my district is fixing the middle school programs so now next year's wil be more prepared for marching. Next marching season, watch the rose parade of dbhs thundering, this years juniors are determined to to. The sad part is that this year's seniors are the only classe in about 10 years that didn't get the chance to march it.
*

aww that sucks.

QUOTE(crazeegirl411 @ Mar 13 2005, 11:06 PM)
I'm not showing off...really, I'm not.  Our band has gotten straight superiors all four years, and first place in our division.  It really gives more pressure if we get a 2.

And haha, that's a pretty good definition of the ratings.  That's funny.
*

yeah, same here

QUOTE(barelyy_coherent @ Mar 14 2005, 11:00 PM)
Today we had the dress rehearsal for our "tour" around the elementary schools. (I know...sad). We're playing a bunch of really cheesy pieces that are supposed to make the little kids happy. There's a "rock" piece with the I-IV-V sequence and it's supposed to feature the trombones. It's annoying and horrific.

Oo and festival in a few months! Yay! =]
*

a few months? wow. ours started today, goes through thursday, then the orchestra goes friday

QUOTE(Ballpointpencil @ Mar 14 2005, 11:04 PM)
We had festival on Saturday. ^_^ Straight superiors. And I didn't mess up my big solo. Wh00tness.
Then why post...? *Points to title*
*

good job! thumbsup.gif

anyway, our first band went to festival today, but they wont be back for another couple of hours, so i wont know how they did until someone updates their xanga. this is the lowest band. i was in there last semester, and theyre not good [at all], but apparently they have a better chance of doing well than we do [because theyre in a different class] and we just cant play our music that well

then tomorrow is our top band. expected to be the best band at festival like usual

then thursday is my class pinch.gif im so scared. it was better today, but still not good. ugh not good. especially as the assistantt BD (who directs my class) is on bed rest for 48 hours with the flu, so he had better be better by thursday. hes already probably going to miss tomorrow, in which i think he conducts some (or maybe some today and not tomorrow? i dont know). but so yeah. thats bad also. even if the BD conducting equals hilarity

"trumpets- you sound like youre raping a chicken" ...we talked about that one all through chem and drove eneryone nuts with the incessant laughter

I mean, the only reason why they had him laid off was because

"Band was not as important as other stuff"

And I was like "wtf"?!
The whole band raised our own money to buy ourselves uniforms! We raised money to buy new equipment, instruments, etc. Its so retarded how they are doing this.
I mean, why not cut football? We win more competitions than they ever won a game. _dry.gif
Or why not cheerleading? They all got the school money to help them, but they just had to cut band. mad.gif

Ok, ranting done _smile.gif
Sorry if that was off topic though sad.gif

exactly. i agree entirely. it is as important as other stuff, it not more so

we almost lost our assistant BD last year, but fortunately they decided they could afford to keep him

we got 1,2,1 on stage and 2 in sight reading at festival cry.gif

it would be lovely if percussion could learn to count, and the second judge didnt have something up her ass

I think it was luck (once again) that we got straight superiors on festival. Two out of the three judges were just plain glad that they hear Sierra Vista. I don't think we deserved a 1 on some of the things. The brass (especially french horn) needs major tuning. I think it was because they were nervous.

Anyway...time for winter concert?! Then MARCHING SEASON! Wewt. Anyway...we're playing a grade five piece next. I don't think it's such a good choice, because yeah...our band is pretty diverse. There are players that are really good (like...all-state level, honor band, solo and ensemble regional, etc.) and some that suck like h*ll. I thought it would be better that we should do it after we split the two bands...but our BD wanted all of the students to learn it, because it will help them. IF THE PRACTICE (yeah right). That requires a lot of patience. Admirable.

Anyway, here's the piece. Listen to it! Soo cool, but a lot of sixteenth note accidental runs. -_-. It's not that hard though. Not as hard as it looks. Haha, but if you first look at the piece of music...it'd seem pretty impossible.

Try this to directly hear it.

Dudeeeeee. Our marching band's first piece was very much like your first song. Wait...it's like exactly like that at the start...but it changes. We called it Indian Summer, and our solo was a clarinet (IMO, the solo sounds way better with clarinet XD). We saw a marching band play that exact song at BoA too. =)
