In my opinion, the dreamcast controller was the best. Ingenious button placement, great way to integrate memory card and multiple expansion slots were great. The SNES controller gets a close second.

This may surprise u, but i really like the Xbox controller (original One) people complained that it was too big. But i thought it was perfect, and fit me just right. Plus i have really really small hands too.
2nd would have to be the ps2 dualshock, that fits me as well.

Yes, the N64 controller was another great one. Rumble pak was a great innovation.

XBOX Controller was the worst. Too many buttons, poor placement, useless enormous logo and a lame copy of the dreamcast controller.

the playstation controllers are ok, but they are bad for one reason: they are not intuitive at all. there is a bit of a learning curve with each game, because their placement doesn't force the developers to follow a standard. The gamecube controller has color coded buttons, different shaped buttons, which means controls are similar from one game to the next. Same goes with n64 and dreamcast controller. With those controllers, I didn't even have to read the manual to start playing. With the xbox/playstation controller, I need to devote 10 minutes to mastering the controls.

Hmm that is true, but i think that the xbox controller and me were ment to be. Especially in halo, and i dont been to bust. But i dont like the GC controller, i think its too unbalanced and it takes time getting used to. But you might say that about the xbox controller...

Playstation 2 is the bestest controller haha. Even though it doesn't have cool buttons. But I LOVE IT. Cause it looks just like the original of playstation controller hehe.

The XBOX controller is awful for Halo in comparison to the mouse and keyboard. Long live WASD.

I don't understand how anyone could have trouble with the GC controller. I don't understand how you can call it unbalanced, it's the most intuitively designed controller of the three and has the fewest buttons of the three. The only problem I have with it is the Z button. Not to mention that Gamecube has the only first party wireless controller.

Let's compare the three (well four) modern console controllers.

My opinions:

1. Sega Dreamcast- Fingers rest very naturally on this controller. The VMU slot is genius. Buttons are spaced very well, so none are out of reach. D-pad is slightly inaccurate, but it's managable.

2. Gamecube Wavebird- Shoulder buttons have the click effect, buttons are spaced well, each button has a different feel and color. Z button is a bit uncomfortable to use at first.

3. Playstation Dualshock- Dual analog sticks are nifty. Buttons are relatively well spaced. However, the layout doesn't force developers to conform to a certain standard, so button layout can drastically change from game to game.

4. Xbox S- Nicer feel in my hands because it's smaller. But there are too many buttons and the start and select are in an awkward spot.

5. Xbox original- The huge logo is useless, the controller is enormous, the excessive amount of buttons are weirdly shaped and hard to use for someone who is first learning the controller.

[edit] hahaha, i found a funny picture while googling:

I like game cube over all the ones I have used. It's not too big and it has rather large buttons =]. It also has a comfy L and R button for your index fingers. With the Ps2 controller you have to get used to where all the symbols (X O etc..) are.

I personally like the Gamecube controller. The L and R buttons have the perfect place for me to put my index fingers (not to mention very comfortable). I also like the C-stick, kind of an improvement from the N64 controller. I also like how the Gamecube controller fits 'snuggly' in my hands. rolleyes.gif

But the whole point of consoles is to not have a mouse and keyboard. But Halo on PC is so much fun

that's not the point of videogame consoles... it's to provide a platform for playing games. i don't understand where you got the no keyboard idea.

Sony lost a lawsuit for patent infringement on their dualshock controllers, so now they can't sell any more PS2 or PSX with the dualshock controllers.

the dreamvast and ps2 controllers were the best. n64's controller was stupid... lol i hated it cause some games you had t odhodl the middle fot the analog, and others you had to hold both sides fot the d-pad and the buttons. the xbox controller wasnt bad, and gamecube controller is confusing at furst especially if ur used to playing ps2. over all, dreamcast and ps2 pwn all other controllers.
