![]() You don't understand the pain I feel inside My parents ran away and I don't know why They tell me it's important and promise to come back And then they head to their room and they start to pack Now a days in my dreams I can hear my Mom's voice I wish I had a say in this war, but I don't get that choice Remembering the days I spent w/ my Dad He may have embarassed me at times, but it wasn't that bad The days since they left go by pretty fast But all of a sudden a year has past Why is it my family that has to be torn apart? They tell me in the letters they keep me close to their hearts The war is almost over and they'll be home soon When there car pulls through the drive-way I'll be ready w/ balloons Today is the day they are coming home So much to tell them so much they don't know But the sun starts to fall and there still not here My face gets red and my eyes fill w/ tears All of a sudden a man in uniform appears in my yard He says he has something to tell me and it might be hard My heart fills w/ dread w/ those words he said No child should be told that their parents are dead I start to yell, scream, and cry He tells me to settle down, but why should I? There's so much more of me they haven't seen I still have my whole life yet I'm only thirteen They promised they'd come back they promised to me He tells me they died in honor of defending our country He told me they would be proud of what a lady I've become I tell him I don't care and that this war was dumb He tells me he has to go and more families to disappoint Years go by now and I got that mans point I still wish I could see my parents one last time But they know how I'm doing I'm doing just fine |

Umm... all I can say is.... wow.
That's an amazing piece. A lot of the time I don't like rhyming poems because the author sometimes focuses more on the rhyming than the actual emotion and poem. But... that didn't happen at all in your poem. |
