Should tryouts be required to be in a team whether its soccer, football, softball, or basketball? some people say they should and some people think they shouldnt because its really unfair. Should schools/leagues let kids who are interested in playing for a team join without tryouts? or should schools/leagues permitt students to tryout for teams? I think they SHOULD tryout..why? a school has like 500+ students..if all them want to join if they're interested..it wont make anything better..a team will have like 95 students..and most of them wont be able to play..and it'll be very difficult..if u tryout the teams are organized, u have great players..ur playing in a team not to have fun..to play good, show the coaches ur skills are tough, and win a championship..and if u tryout..only a certain amount of people will make it so students/coaches wont have a tough time..what's ur opinion?

yah..i think tryouts are important because some schools..(like mine) can only afford so many jerseys..plus..the teams would really suck if everyone was let on it blink.gif
but sometimes..its not fair for the people who CAN play..but there aren't enough spots on the team..so yah

lol, only 500+ students? we had like 600 in each class! but yes, I think so, because each team has a number of limited players they can handle, and you dont want some moron who just wants to a part of something but cant play basketball runnin around on your team scoring for the other guys when you are trying to win a championship! lol.

there have to be tryouts. the point of a team is to win, especially school teams.

and for those who enjoy playing but not really be good enough to make a competative team, they can join a rec league

no, because that would exclude a lot of people from participating in sport. a lot of people really like the sport and like to get something out of it, and if they are beginners, you exclude them because of their abilities at certain sports, you take away their chance of having fun/ exercising/ or even becoming an advantage to the school team. everyone have potentials.

they NEED to have tryouts; especially whenever they are in high school.
if the people really want to be on it and they have never played before, they need to get lessons and tryout the next year. =/
and they also need to tryout so that they can place you on the appropriate team.

true, but if it is a competitive sport and there are people who are really good at a certain sport, they don't want to wait for the beginners to catch up. Also, someone said that some schools don't have enough money to support everyone with proper equipment. I think tryouts should be mandatory because it shows the people that are the best qualified to play the sport.

Well, put it in the situation of the United States presidency.

No tryouts is like saying we shouldn't have an election. Before achieving anything, whether it be a spot on the A-team for your school's baseball squad, landing that six-figure executive job, or getting into the Oval Office, you always have to be reviewed, or 'tried out'.

Of course there should be try-outs.

If there weren't any, you would be stuck with a 100-member basketball team where about half of them can't play and aren't even passionate about it.

Of course you need try-outs. That's a no-brainer.

You're hurting the team if you don't have any.

If there were no try-outs, the whole team would suck because everyone would make it. There are limited people on a team, if you somehow didn't know? If there were like 100 people on a team, some of the good people might not even play and the bad people... are blah.

well. yes. if a lot of kids want to be on a team, you have to narrow it down, and there are games...won't you want the best? i dont see how its not fair..

That's true. I think there should be try-outs. It's to show much how much they want to be in the team. If they don't show much they really want to be in the sport, then that means they don't have the spirit to be in the team. I know I've always wanted to try-out to be in the drill-team, but it's hard because you have to keep on smiling even though you did lots of mistakes. It's hard to keep on smiling when you fall. You want to laugh, but you can't. They think you're just goofing around or you think the routines are funny. The judges are like the captain of the drill-team and some are very mean, so yeah it's hard. I wish they only let the counselors or a staff to take the stand because using a snob students aren't just fair. Because you know those b*tches? They only choose their friends or people who obeys their rules or calling them "ohhh you're sooo pretty!!" gosh... sick of those people.

this isnt a debate anymore. the answer is obvious. try-outs + neccessity to preserve the quality of a team, and to be fair to those who are commited and talented

the school has a reputation to hold, therefore, they must choose only the best. like some of you said, it would also require a great deal of money if anybody who wanted to be on a team was let on.

There should be try-outs for sports, etc. I'm more of a fine arts person so if everyone who wanted to be on the dance team at my school got to be on dance team, we'd have a HUGE dance team. We wouldn't have enough room to practice either. And you need coordination and not sloppy. Why is this a debate? Of course it's fair. I didn't make a lot of things that had try-outs but I didn't sue the school because it was unfair..

of course there should be tryouts because then you wouldn't know who could play or can't, who can sing or can't, who can dance or can't! and plus it might over populate.

I think tryout is needed because even though you like playing that " sport ", when you try out .. the service is terrible.

Tryouts determine the best athletes. In order to have the best possible team, the lesser athletes must be weeded out. Tryouts are an amazing thing.

I think it depends on how many people are trying out. If there are a massive number, then there should obviously be tryouts.

But I also believe that if there aren't too many people planning to play for the team, there shouldn't necissarily be tryouts. Although, I do think that no matter what, cuts should be aloud. wink.gif
