Of course they have the chance of becoming daily smokers.
It's a terrible addiction, and many teens that try it even once can become addicted, which could easily lead to becoming a daily smoker.

I don't have much advice.
Have you tried talking to them or their parents?
If they won't listen, then talk to their parents about it.

Oh yes. That's always effective. Unless they're not afraid of cancer. blink.gif Who isnt??

Telling their parents might seem a bit of a telltale, but talking to them will help. Tell them you care about them and don't want them to turn out like one of those scary smokers with yellow teeth and horrid breath. Get yourself to cry, if it helps. mellow.gif

Well, if they won't listen, I'd definitely tell their parents.
It's not really being a tattletale if you're telling their parents something like this.
This is a very serious situation. This could get out of hand, so I don't see how telling their parents would be a "telltale" approach.

well, the decision to smoke is not yours to make..it's theirs...so the only thing you can do is to be there for them...and just....tell them how you feel about it...but do not tell them what to do...respect their decision and support them...even if you do not approve of smoking.

yeah they will be daily smokers eventually when they get addicted to it. there's nothing you can do about it, they made that choice let them suffer the consequences

You should tell them how you feel. Tell them that you don't appreciate them smoking _dry.gif I guess you can try to convince them, but like the others said. The only ones who can help them stop, is themselves.

I would not tell their parents. They would probably abandon me. If you're a good friend and you're worried about their health, try to give subtle hints about quitting smoking. Invite them to a drug awareness meeting, bring up how bad smoking is in conversations, but don't be obnoxious.
Example of bringing it up-

Her: I hope the ozone layer doesn't die in my lifetime...
You: Well, smoking doesn't really help.

Well, yeah. You get the point. If it's bothering you a lot, talk to your parents about it, not theirs. It's not your responsibility to tell their parents about their kids.

I've been a smoker for several years. I think I actually started sometime before high school. Well, I'm much MUCH older now and have yet to quit succesfully (with the exception of not smoking during my pregnancy).

I'd say go ahead and express your concerns. But do so only once and do not push.
