I agree cheerleading is a sport. It annoyed me when people think it's the easiest thing in the world. It's hard to learn those jumps and get perfect toetouches and hurdles and everythan. And then when you add stunts to it..ahh, lol. I mean it's hard. Try to get the soccer team to do a basket toss and a straight up lib. It takes practice and you gotta be in good shape. All people see is when cheerleaders cheer for games and do dances and stuff, but there is much more to it. I miss it :( cuz there was alot of dances involved, and i loved how you need to pay attention to every detail and all and going to competitions. lol ok i'll stop rambling on...good times in my life. lol

Omg, I never said it wasn't!

--

Anyway, I do consider it a sport.

The TECHNICAL meaning of "sport" (going back to Latin roots, anyway) is basically doing anything out of your day-to-day schedule.

So if I do hopscotch one day next weekend, that could be considered a sport.

Personally, I think cheerleading is a dumb excuse for a sport, but if you go back to the Latin word for sport and such, it is technically a sport.

OK...i used to be a cheerleader...no one in my high school believes me...well even though ive drawn away from that kind of crowd when ever sombody talks about cheerleading NOT being a sport i still get mad...ive been there and done that so i still get up in peoples face and tell them that cheerleading is a sport...it works just as many muscles as football so if there saying that football is a sport then cheerleading is to blink.gif

Actually, I do think cheerleading is a sport. I don't find it interesting or entertaining in the least (no offense to any cheerleaders, that's just the way I am), but it does fit the definition of a sport.

yes it is a sport.. you practice, you sweat, and youg et exercise.. it's a sport.
i mean.. if bowling is a sport then cheerleading has to be.. cheerleading is a combination of dancing and gymnastics.

I've seen cheerleaders practice before and I consider it a sport, they gotta do a bunch of hard crap.

Yes cheerleading is a sport.

NO cheerleading is no harder than any other sport. From my experience, it's easier.

However, it is unfair that golf is considered more of a sport than cheerleading. That's a major injustice, but to say that cheerleading is harder than football? Nah.

Thats where you're mislead. Cheerleading for high schools and competitive cheerleading is in two different categories. If you ever seen a routine by some of the better all-star squads, you'll change your mind.

i don't know, i've played a lot of sports and cheerleading was by far the hardest, most time consuming, and most challenging. it takes a lot of commitment, and a LOT of practices. and sht from people who don't think its that difficult stubborn.gif

Of course cheerleading is a sport! You have to have the physical strength and flexible characteristics to be able to perform their stunts..That means it requires tons of fitness..

Yea. Shattering the stereotypes, huh? Our last comp is in two weeks so it'll soon be a thing of the past, but it was a worthwhile experience.
