faded background in text area??, how do i make it faded?? Options

Let's say my background was of yellow flowers and the area where I put my text had a border. When I say faded, I mean that you can still see the yellow flowers in the area where my text is, but it looks like you're looking at them through a white fog. I hope you understand what I'm saying. Thanks for all your help!!
